My model shoot took place in Sonnenland de Gran Canaria. The back drop was perfect for our perfume ad so we spent 2 days shooting the photos at the site. I was due for a holiday so my boyfriend flew up after the hold and we stayed there for a week. We were told by the Spaniards that the town used to be centered about tourists but recently has transformed into town of residents who work in the surrounding Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico resorts. I preferred the non-tourist feel. Everything was more smartly priced and the residents spoke about life now and back then and what they hoped for the future. The people were real. They did not have to put on the fake smile and false pleasing conversations to appease tourist. They also gave us the inside scoop of what annoys them most about travelers. My initial impressions of Sonnenland were influenced but the amount of hotels. The locals told me that this place has more hotels per square mile than anywhere else on the island and that is what I thought it would be. I was wrong and glad about the.
I enjoyed speaking with the residents and the vast mix of people who visited and who lived there. They were really laid back like us. The city center thrived but because locals lived there, it was more fun and cheap. Running through the sand dunes was silly fun and we were frequent visitors at the shops, restaurants, and bars.
