La Tania, France, Ski Resorts Hidden jem of the three valley Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: David Date of travel: 22/02/2008
la Tania is a small resort at the foot of the three valleys and connects v. easily with either Merribel or Courcheval (two lifts away from both). Having read that the resort was family friendly and quiet, our group of six twentysomethings were delighted to find plenty of life in the main strip, with a good selection of bars and restaurants and a lively atmosphere. In terms of the accomodation there are a number of apartment complexes in the village and a wide range of traditional chalets nestles in the hills above. We opted for the latter, staying in a catered Crystal chalet called Chalet Chamois, which was very cosy (real fire etc) and the food prepared by our very hospitable chalet girl Rosie was of the highest order. While not quite ski-in, ski-out, we could access the slopes very easily (maybe a two min walk to get on the slope leading down into La Tania town and the lift leadling to Merribel). I would definitely recommend La Tania as a charming gateway to the huge 3 valleys mountain ranges without the overcrowding of some of the better known resorts in the region. A wonderful place to go in the spring/summer. The walking is tremendous and the people are so friendly. We went there as part of a two centre holiday with the other being spent at the seaside resort of Split.
The locals were allways helpful and eagre to please and if you can even manage one word of Serbo-Croat then you are better than me. The resort is litterally a 30min walk from Italy where we went for an ice-cream one day much to the amusement of the border guards.
See where the winter olympic games were heldand if you think a ski jump look scarey on the TV wait till you see the real thing.
A really super place to go with activities for all.St Johann, Austria, Ski Resorts cracker Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: andrew Date of travel: 06/01/2007

We are just back and it was one of the best holidays we ever had, no more going to the sun, now trying to book from Cork for Easter and next year we will go for two weeks at Christmas, great place for Kids, even though we had none with us. People so friendly and everything very resonable. Make sure you bring enough Euro, Credit cards are rarely excepted.Italy, Ski Resorts Milan Italy Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Jane Date of travel: 30/10/2007
We flew from Edinburgh to Milan and arrived around 9pm at the Hotel Rez in Milan. The hotel was basic but lovely and clean and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. As it was late they confirmed that the hotel restaurant was still open. Again basic but lovely. Run single handedly by a young Italian girl who had very little English but good at improvisation !! especially when trying to explain there was no ravioli !! but would we be ok with lasagne ??
On exploration of Milan the next day it looked very industrial from the hotel bedroom window, however reaching the centre of Milan you discover the massive beautiful Cathedral (The Dhomo) which was amazing both inside and out. You can eat really cheaply in all the restaurants across Milan (cheaper if called a cafe than if called a restaurant). This is also the fashion capital of Italy and the fashion shops, windows, interiors and products look amazing. Only about £5 K for an outfit !! Totally unaffordable to the average person but nice to browse anyway ! You can visit the Leonardo Di Vinci's 'Last Supper' but have to book 2 days in advance,. Apparently very expensive and you just walk past it practically seeing very little ! If you are in Milan on a Friday the Civil Municipal Museum if FREE , the magic words !!! and well worth a visit. The parks in the centre of Milan are beautiful and one in particular catered very much to children with dodgems, miniture railway, an old fashioned merry go round, outdoor cafe with the most wonderful Italian coffees and very cheap !! The park was apparently modelled on a British park and it looks straight out of Mary Poppins. I would recommend a long weekend to Milan just to see it but avoid Central Station late at night and areas in the suburbs. Also, I would add we flew a no frills airline (Easyjet) and it was one of the smoothest, most relaxing enjoyable flights I have ever had both there and back !! The staff were wonderful. Edinburgh to Milan (Malpensa) only took 2 hrs 40 mins !!! If you do go ....... enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1Avoriaz, France, Ski Resorts not great for snowboarders Rating: 6/10 Submitted by: David Date of travel: 15/03/2005
Avoriaz has some really good runs for skiing, although a lot of them are narrow and icy, which is an absolute nightmare for a beginner snowboarder like me. Also a lot of the runs only have button lifts, which are also a deathtrap for snowboarders. Consequently we had to walk up a lot of runs, which was about as much fun as poking myself in the eyeball with a rusty fork. Morzine, France, Ski Resorts go early or snow could go Rating: 6/10 Submitted by: David Date of travel: 15/03/2005
Morzine is a fine little resort - nice people, restaurants etc. Only problem is it is quite low down so there is a risk of no snow if you go towards the end of the season. The upside is that it is v close to Avoriaz which is higher and you can get combined Avoriaz/Morzine ski passes without breaking the bank. Canada, Ski Resorts Best experience ever. I was so thrilled with the King Pacific Lodge we stayed in, there was a huge lake right in front of the lodge, and when we looked out of our bedroom window that was the view you saw. You could go fly-fishing and go on one of the boats rides; it was very peaceful and relaxing too. We were took on a tour of the great Bear Rainforest, very special experience, would definitely do that again. The treatment we receive was 100% lush, simply the best. |
