I really enjoyed Portugal, it is a very lovely place. Albufeira beach is fabulous!! Long stretch of gorgeous sand and sea!! Very picturesque. The "strip" is a really lively and great place to go for people who enjoy night-life too! It is a nice cheap place! I liked it a lot!

Me and my familie - husband and my little son (10months) went to Albufeira in 2009. from 28.09. - 10.10. We was very excited because people are very friendly, every one is smiling. That place (Portugal) is wonderful place for rest with familie. In the evening we went to listen to the rustling sea. Our son did it with great enthusiasm, because we can not see it in the Latvia. I would recommend every ever visit the beautiful paradise called Portugal - Algarve.

Upon visiting the Algarve I saw sights never seen by my eyes before. A wealth of beauty accompanied by the personalities of wonderful town locals. Each one as special as the other, from being friendly to helpful, charming to reassuring and a pleasure to be with; they provided us with the most amazing food and sent us off on our exploration of Portugal with fresh grown oranges from their trees. Having never seen an orange tree before, you really appreicate their beauty in the surroundings of a wonderful motel. The prices low, the scenery high, the food exquisite and the company so amazing that you feel part of what is going on in the area makes you feel right at home and able to enjoy what special time you have allocated to this amazing district of Portugal. My recommendations are to visit with high expectations and a willingness to be part of the town for your trip... not just someone on holiday.

This will be our 3rd holiday to Vilamoura. The first time we stayed at Pay do Lago. The apartment was very spacious (1 bedroomed) and had patio doors which led you onto the footpath just a short walk to the outdoor pool. We also stayed at the Oasis Village which is the sister complex to Parque Mourabel/Pay Do Lago. The studio apartment was extremely well furnished and plenty of room for us. The Marina was about a 30 minute stroll from our accommodation and was very relaxed. There was also a train that could take you to the Marina. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to chose from and you could either make it as cheap or as expensive as you wanted to. The market at Quarteira is an excellent place to wander around and brouse the various stalls. Well worth a visit. Make sure you get there early as it gets quite crowded. We hope to have another brilliant holiday this year.

We spent two week in Alvor and although the weather was a bit chilly we had a lovely time. We liked the fishing village part of Alvor and the beautiful beach even in winter. The buses were good to get about and we found plenty to do. Plenty of places to eat and the people were nice. We can't wait to go back.

If you are looking for nice and quiet holiday away from the herd of tourists then Porches is the ideal for you. Porches is a calm town that has not yet been commercialised and retains its Portuguese heritage. However if at any point you do feel like joining the rest of the tourists you can do so as you are not very far from Lagoa and Carvoeiro. Make sure you visit the Porches pottery factory as the town is well known for its quality in the craft. Just enjoy the wonderful quite town of Porches!

Silves is a decent enough place and there are nice pleasant beaches where I spent a lot of my time but I wasn’t overly impressed with the resort. I don’t know why the place just didn’t have the same vibrant and holiday atmosphere. All in all it was an okay place where the food was decent and the beach was nice but it just lacked that spark that you want form a holiday.

Wonderful place make sure that you are there for at least 2 Saturdays as that is when the fantastic markets are booming with food and clothes and everything else. Look out for the leather bags, jackets and other accessories as these are very good quality and very cheap at the same time….make sure you haggle! That was the highlight of my visit to Loule!

Stayed in the Choro Mar and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially reception. Rooms were fully equipped and spacious with wicked views over pool - rooms could have benefited from air-con. The beach and strip were a fair walk but there is a free mini bus which runs from the hotel 4 times a day (taxi rides are 4 euro).

Guia, Algarve, Portugal Vote Guia for Holiday

Date of travel: 03/04/2006

Guia, Portugal is a place that not many people speak of when they mention where they will go on holiday. After my trip there I am utterly confused about why it is not discussed more. Guia has the prettiest and softest beaches out there. Just lovely and innocent. The towns are traditional along with the structures of the buildings. Everyone and everything is simply full of life there. It is full of Olive groves, vineyards, wheat field’s, fields for grazing and farms. For just a little bit of money we took tours of all of these. Beautiful, just beautiful. The people of Portugal were also a nice treat. The air of tradition was about in the form of dances, food, and festivals. They use a lot of olive oil in most of their dishes but it was ok because everything tastes nice. Men and women playing gentle songs out by the water. Singing of hard times and good times. One man sang about the pain of love while a woman spoke of family and the good life. The markets unlike that of which I have seen before full of fresh strong scented flowers, fresh fruit, and a lot of seafood. If I ate seafood I would have never left Guia. There was much to do besides being treated by nature. We swam, enjoyed the restaurants, and learned some Portuguese.

This was my second visit to Lagos and once I got there again, there was no wondering why I was back. Very elegant and picturesque. The prettiest beaches and the nicest sand. The old town feel with new town pleasures was the perfect combination. The town was quiet but there was always something to do. There was traditional music but the clubs played new music too. Antique shops in the middle of new stores. The Marina with and old town feel. Wonderful.

Lagos is a fabulous resort all the way around. Beaches were good as well as the food. We saw many cheap movies in the cinema, and they were the movies that were recently released. We tried to go to every restaurant and bar that we could but the resort was bigger than we thought. Everyday the streets and the parks were cleaned and swept. Everything was nice and tidy. At night the place was a party scene with much to do and dance for. Hotel was big and pretty and did not run up a large bill, even with room service. Great time, great experience, great fun.

Date of travel: 19/06/2007

I spent my honey moon here with my beautiful new wife, we treated our selves to 5* accommodation and it was drop dead gorgeous. The Dona Filipa Hotel where we stayed was amazing, the room was like a mansion, four poster King sized bed and en suite, a large sitting room with 2 balconies, TV with sky plus and movies on demand, beautiful kitchen area and a family bathroom with marble floor and walls, and the facilities were excellent. It was all inclusive so the mini bar came in useful for a change and not just sitting there being watched. And the food was lush; you could either eat in the hotel restaurant or have room service. I know what I prefer! There were tennis courts and a golf course too, and the beach was a 2 minute walk away from the hotel, with its very own pool area as well, that was strange but it was used so it was a good idea for many. There was also a chef hut with in the pool area of the hotel, where you could eat what ever you wanted all day long, from BBQ Chicken, ribs, steak, duck etc, I've never had 1st class service in my life. I could get use to this. There was a cinema with in the resort and a few bars and restaurants. The hotel put on some evening entertainment too; we were in our element and really enjoyed ourselves. This has got to be the best holiday we have ever been on.

Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal Pleasant holiday resort.

It was a pleasant holiday and the people made you feel very welcome. Our hotel (Vila Gale Ampalius) was lovely and very spacious but in a quiet location, great views and very good facilities though. With an in door heated swimming pool, gymnasium and games room, but there is a price to pay for these facilities. There is also a hotel cocktail bar, bar/restaurant and even tennis courts. If you get bored of sitting by the pool then visit the Cerro de Vila Museum and the Archaeological Site is well worth a visit too but don't take your children as they will get bored, it's more for the adults. I learned my lesson! The theme park would be a great idea for the kids, not only will it keep them amused but you will also have fun too as there is plenty for every one of all ages. Ok not the elderly people of course! At night you can visit the Vilamoura Casino and enjoy cabaret shows but children are not allowed so be warned, there was only 2 bars that catered for children but these bars shut around 9pm and the adult bars and clubs were a 15-20 minute walk away from the hotel too. But we all had a great time though.

Vale do Lobo or ‘Lobo’ as I like to call it is a great resort that has got probably the widest variety of entertainment that I have come across in Portugal. It is a Golf and Beach resort which is perfect for couples as when you want some time to yourself the lads can go and play a few rounds of golf while the girls can top up their tan on the beautiful beach. Don’t get me wrong it can easily be the other way round but I am not really into golf and I love the beach so that’s what I did. We spent the evening together however, dining at a different restaurants and chilling out at the local bar.

You got to go to Tavira, I 100% recommend it to everyone. It’s worth every penny. Everything is great, the beach is lovely and sandy, and the weather is gorgeous, spot on. But if you got to hot then the crystal blue sea would cool you down and then a cocktail afterwards to finish you off. There are plenty of hotels to choose from, you don't have to book there and then, and when you get to Tavira the hotels are a lot cheaper than the tour operators. Take a gamble, you will not be disappointed.

Oporto is for the older generation, now I like Portugal but Oporto was to dull for me. I’m also not into ancient history or old buildings etc but it is a nice place though, just not for me. I can't knock the place, there are a lot of things to discover and people who enjoy adventures will love Oporto with out a doubt. But I will stick to the Algarve next time though as I’ve been going there for the past few years and it’s in my comfort zone. I do recommend Oporto for sure.

I stayed in Alvor for a week last summer and I can tell you it was absolutely boiling, don’t get me wrong I am not complaining I would rather that weather than the kind we have had this so called summer. Anyway back to Alvor, although it was hot we made the best of the great weather and messed around the beach playing volleyball and soaking up the sun. We also went to the harbour and did some snorkelling which was fun as I had never done that before. The evenings are really exciting in Alvor and I really recommend a bar called Venure I think that is how you spell it but I am sure you will find it as there are not many bars that begin with v. I will definitely be going back there next year as I couldn’t make it this year.

Canico, Madeira, Portugal traditionally nice

Submitted by: Adriato
Date of travel: 04/10/2005

The thing I liked about Canico was that it had a great traditional look and feel to it unlike a lot of the other resorts which have become completely commercialised. From the beach you can enjoy the endless views out into the Atlantic and further in you can walk around the town and admire the historical buildings. Canico also has a couple of nice golf course where you can try your hand at a few rounds of Golf. Although these are plenty of activities to do in Canico it is really most suited for people looking for a relaxing holiday.

Funchal, Madeira, Portugal Charming hotel, great staff

Date of travel: 17/09/2007

Just returned from a delightful 2 week break at the Tivoli Ocean Park. I could not fault this hotel in any way, staff were friendly and facilities exceptional. It’s located on the sea front on a bit of a slope and Funchal 'centre' is about a 40minute walk away, this may bother some but I quite enjoy the walk. The only negative was the noise; they’re doing construction either side of the hotel at the mo and it starts at 8am.

Took a ferry trip to Porto Santo (it's about 2hr 30min) - a divine little island which is definitely worth a visit. The island is only 14km long and 5km wide, and famous for its 9km of golden sand beach which is situated on the south of the island. Water sports here are outstanding; you’re spoilt for choice… there’s game fishing, diving, canoeing, sailing and much more. Nice trip but not much else to do if you don’t want to be on the beach!

Machico, Madeira, Portugal Waterfront Location

Date of travel: 14/08/2007

A quiet place, not much in the way of nightlife but there are enough bars, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained. Stayed in the Dom Pedro Baía Club Hotel which overlooks the beach of Machico Bay, it’s an old hotel but the rooms are clean and comfortable just make sure you get a room with a balcony. Food is ok but the choice is fairly limited. Leisure facilities are excellent and there’s a separate pool for children. The resort is surrounded by lots of nature, it offers a superb base for walking.

Very nice resort. Gorgeous beach with so much restaurants. Big selection of food. People were cool. Not too many young people and virtually no kids on holiday. Luz, Algarve, Portugal Great Fishing

Rating: 7/10
Submitted by: Antwon
Date of travel: 09/04/2007

Luz was a nice fishing village. Me and the guys there to take a break from life and were successful. We fished with the locals and learned how to cook them on open fire. Our first attempts to cook were not great. We did get the hang of it before we let. The village looked wicked old fashion with narrow streets and houses they were whitewashed. It looked like the villages picked a time in the past and decided to stay in that time with the building, bars and traditional restaurants. There were not many young people there so it was nice to relax. We would not go there for party fun times but we would for beach time with friends and family. Another way we relieved stress was on the water in the cheap-to-rent jet skis and races. The village is centered on day trips where there are a number of historical sites to visit.

I had never heard of Tavira before my friend suggested it for our long weekend break. It was the last minute and there was no where else I could think to go so I agreed. It is a beautiful resort in the region of Algarve and was different from the resorts of modern times. It reminded me of Venice with the river and the boats but Dublin in its architecture. There are not main attractions or big things to do but it is very affordable to go and relax. There are 22 Churches there of all shapes and sizes and the people are pleasant. We stayed at a family owned in where the mother and father cooked for us and gave us advice on where to tour. Very nice for a quiet holiday.

I totally fell in love with The Cliff Bay hotel in Madeira that I and my family stayed in, the view was awesome! The pool was huge and with the ocean in the back ground, that made our holiday complete. The hotel rooms were very spacious, clean, and airy and luxury and the service provided was spot on. The beach was fantastic, golden sand and beautiful blue sea and very calm too. The beach bar was good, had a play area for the kids so that kept them busy and happy while me and my wife sunbathed and took in the amazing views. In the evening we would stay in the hotel and watch the plays and live singers, it was very entertaining. There was a few bars and clubs out side of the hotel but they never catered for children in the evening so that was a let down, but we had fun anyway regardless. I would truly enjoy going back to Madeira for a second visit.

A wonderful resort that seems to have grown in popularity over the last couple of years on you most recent visit to Gale we decided to stay on the resort rather than go off exploring the nearby towns as we were looking for a less active holiday. Gale provided just that with its wonderfully golden sand and clear blue water the stay was the most relaxed I have felt in years. I would definitely recommend Gale to anyone looking to just soak up some sun and enjoy a quiet holiday.

This town is very small and you can probably cover most of it in a day. There are lots of churches and historical stuff to see but not too much on the entertainment side. You will absolutely get freaked out by the Chapel of Bones where apparently the walls have got over a thousand skulls behind them. Alcantarilha is probably the perfect to stay and enjoy the local town for a while making a firm base and then head out to the other resorts form there for some of the more physical activities.

What a place! Praia da Falesia is a beautiful beach resort that is great for a relaxing holiday away from your usually crowded life back home. The beach is great and not as crowded as we have seen at some of the other resorts, which means that you can pretty much pick your spot. The evenings are calm and low key with a few nice quite bars to enjoy a couple of rounds of drinks. You can quite easily pop down to some of the other resorts on the odd night if you fancy a bit more noise in the evenings with Vilmoura and Albufeira close by.

Apparently the town of Estombar used to be a major source of salt production which just about the only piece of knowledge I picked up on my visit. Learning whilst on holiday is not my favourite pass time which is why it was a good thing that’s there was lots of other stuff to do around Estombar like chilling out at one of the great bars in town, that was my favourite thing to do. Estombar is also very close to other resorts which makes it an ideal location to stay at and take daily excursions around the area.

Before we went to Praia da Luz we looked at the resort online and were very impressed with what we saw but, me being ever the pessimist thought that they always make it look better than it is in the photos. After having been there I can honestly say that the pictures wee saw didn?t do the place enough justice, it was absolutely mind blowing. The beach was fantastic and the nightlife was happening, one of my favourite places was the Cavebar which was great and had lots of stuff going on. I would definitely recommend the resort to anyone looking to have a sun packed holiday.

The village is also home to the ruins of a Moorish castle and small parish church.

You will instantly notice the blue tiles all over the place which in some way relate to the life of some saint in the 1700?s well that?s what one of the locals told us. If you like to play a little of Golf than there are some real nice courses at Almancil. The village is especially renowned for its wonderful pottery which you might be able to bring back provided you are careful with it.

Porto Santo has an amazing beach and the hotel was top as well. The resort is very quiet and there is not many tourists to spoil everything. I enjoyed my time relaxing on the beach and taking in the scenery, and the sea is beautiful too, known for the best minerals in the world. In the town square there is a few restaurants, cosy bars and clubs for you to enjoy, especially after a long lazy day on the beach. Most things are cheap so there is nothing to worry bout when spending either...

Sao Vicente is pretty resort. I loved the Volcanic Caves and the Capela de San Roque. The holiday wasn't a sunbathing holiday but that never bothered me one bit, I adore beautiful scenery and exploring new things, you can't do that while sitting by the pool... We went on a day trip to the Sao Vicente Volcanically formed caves, we walked through the cave and saw the lava channels, it was a great experience. In the village you can enjoy rock cakes and hot wines, this was new to me and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Garajau is a nice and relaxing resort to visit. The hotel we stayed in was fantastic, (Dom Pedro Garajau) was very clean and the pool was gorgeous. The beach was close by so if you got bored of the pool side then you could spend sometime at the beach. There were boat rides and wind surfing plus you could hire a jet bike and go across to another island and chill but that was costly. The view from the sea was ace, the mountains gave it that real holiday feeling. I recommend Garajau to everyone.

I stayed in a beautiful hotel based in Machico's resort overlooking a wonderful beach. The hotel staff were amazing, always there to help out and the service they gave was 100%... There was also 3 pools, 2 for the adults and 1 for the kids. There was also a little waterfall in the pool over hanging a small bridge, it also had a little area in between the waterfall where you could relax. The beach had everything you could dream of like; volley ball, pedal boats, jet ski's, scuba diving and much more. It was a fantastic holiday and I will be going back for sure.

Me and my wife enjoyed a nice week in a 5 star hotel in Oporto, Portugal. We walked in the city and enjoyed luxury food and wine. We toured the Ponte de D. Luis iron bridge and the 12th Century Cathedral or se. The hotel was superb, A/C balcony, en suite, very spacious and top of the range food and service. You can live like a King in Oporto and enjoy great attractions and good wine tasting tours. Fantastic.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Madeira Palacio hotel overlooking the sea, the view was out of this world. The pool area was also beautiful with palm tree's all round and a small bar too. We wasn't far from Funchal's centre which was brilliant as I enjoy browsing round the capital and viewing the amazing buildings and culture. I enjoyed every minute of my stay in Funchal and would love to return with my family someday.

Canico is not my ideal choice of holiday but my boyfriend booked the holiday as a suprise. Canico wasn't lively enough and the hotel was miles away from the beach and the pool area was to small and cramped. Canico is not a bad place, I would not say it's a dull resort, if the hotel was closer to the coast and the resort was more livelier then it would of been ok... You do have a choice of restaurants, bars and clubs but there mainly in the centre of Canico and its a taxi drive to get there so that put me off. I enjoy a package holiday with a hotel very close to the beach and a view of the island from my hotel window, and also restaurants, pubs and clubs at your finger tips.

Armacao De Pera, Algarve, Portugal Party!

Armacao De Pera is a small resort town that has been designed for tourists and you get that feel when you visit the village. The whole area is loaded wit holiday apartments and villas with little else other than bars and clubs all over the place which was fine by me as that's exactly what I wanted. However if you want a quite and peaceful holiday then make sure you visit Armacao De Pera in the off-peak months because its really busy during the summer months. I highly recommend this place as a holiday destination to the younger crowd who like to party.

Me and my family are very active and enjoy the outdoor, so when we arrived in Madeira we was very happy with the whole package we received. We walked through the valeys and up the mountains and came across a waterfall and pool area to swim in, that was very nice. We also explored the Madeira gardens and tasted the fine wine being served through out the day. It is a special place to visit and We would definitely be returning to Madeira very soon.

I didn't realise how close Montegordo was to the Spanish border until I met a bunch of Spanish people on my latest excursion. There is an endless beach which is pretty clean and nice for a relaxing day of sunbathing. I didn't try it myself but some of my mates did and they said that the windsurfing was a lot of fun. My favourite thing to do in Montegordo was the casino which kept me occupied for a good few days. Not quite Vegas but it was a damn good substitute. The sea food is very good which is what I expected with the village being so close to the water.

Lagos is now one of my favourite holiday destinations after my visit this year. The town of Lagos has got a wonderful blend of history, culture and modernisation. You can have an active holiday and travel around Lagos learning about the Portuguese town by visiting the churches and monasteries etc. There is food available of all types but I recommend you try the traditional Portuguese dishes. If you are more of the lazy type and just want to relax with a book on the beach and work on your tan than you can do that at one of the splendid beaches in Lagos which is what I mostly did.

Carvoeiro is a small but very popular village with a very cosy beach that is extremely clean. If you enjoy walking like I do than Carvoeiro has a nice selection of attractions and views for you to enjoy as long as you are willing to trek around the village. Look out for the rock formation that is always changing thanks to constant erosion from the sea, it is quite a sight. A lot of the bars are run by British people so language is never going to be a problem however I would challenge you to find a bar run by a local and experience the true essence of Portugal.

Cabanas is a small fishing village that is developing fast as a resort with lots of bars and restaurants popping up. Although there is not much to do I the village, people who enjoy unwinding with a book or just want to have chat with the locals can do so at the numerous cafes along the waters of Cabanas. To get to the beach you need to take a small boat ride across the lagoon which I wound a bit inconvenient but it was a nice beach. Being a fishing village you can almost expect the sea food to be excellent and it was.

I found my holiday to Boliqeime to be one of the most relaxing holidays I have ever had as it is a wonderfully tranquil village that doesn't try to imitate the other villages by putting up all these clubs, bars etc to attract tourists. You will enjoy the experience of shopping at the local village market and living like a local. If you do get bored of quiet life in Boliqeime the more popular towns of Vilamoura and Albufeira are not too far away.

Areias De Sao Joao is a good holiday destination without being too spectacular. There are plenty of beaches there and you will find that everyone sets up pretty early for a nice long day of just sunbathing and reading. Once the sun goes down there is a new favourite pass time and that is the bars and restaurants where you can easily spend a few hours eating a four course meal especially since the sea food is of such high quality.

I highly recommend Alvor for a fun holiday especially after i had such a great time there last year. There is a very long beach with lots of golden sand facing the pristine waters which tempt you to go into the sea. There is a vibrant night life with some very different clubs and bars which gives you a lot of options so you're not doing the same type of hing every night. Make sure you make a stop at Boolans which is a Brazilian bar that is very popular. The sea food is delicious at Alvor and the people are very friendly and helpful.

If you are looking for a holiday away from the crowd where there is not much to do apart from relax on the beach and stroll around the the village and enjoy the scenery than Acoteias is perfect for you. I liked it for about a day then got bored very quickly as there is very little to do and there are not many people around. One thing i will say is that the food was very good even if the night life wasn't.

Algarve to me is all about the fantastic beaches and there are plenty of them. The beaches have golden sands, clear water and are very clean. Apart from the beaches there is a lot more you can do in the Algarve as it is pretty big area. There are a wide range of sports activities to enjoy like Golf, Tennis, Sailing etc and there are a wide range if clubs to hit after dark. Depending on where you are staying in the Algarve there are many lively nigh clubs and bars to get your groove on. Albufeira is a great place for the young crowd who want to stay out until the early hours of the morning. When it comes to the cuisine i must say that i have not tasted better sea food anywhere else, i think its somethign that is very popular in the Algarve. I would also suggest that you eat at least once at one of the more traditional restaurants wher you will experience the local folk music while you dine which is a wonderful touch.

The people are pretty friendly and the sea food is really nice.

Very nice place. The weather, hotel, pool and beaches were all up to standered, I enjoyed every minutes of being in the Algarve... There were plenty of day and evening activity and the food was superb. The only problem with my stay was that I went self catering which was a mistake. Other wise, I could not fault the Algarve in Portugal.
