New York, New York State, USA Reviews View Cheap Holidays To New YorkNew York, New York State, USA Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Joan Date of travel: 07/12/2007
This was my third visit to New York and it gets better every time as I get to know the city better. Now I know the layout of the city I can refine my hotel choices and know where all the bargains are to be had at Macys, Saks etc. Getting around is really easy if a bit hard on the feet or you can take the softer option and use the very excellent tour buses but they can be hard to get back onto if you leave the bus in the middle of the tour. The hotels are all of a good standard if a little expensive but sticking to the central Manhattan area is a must for the nightime scene and getting to all the points of interest. New York is such an iconic city, so many buildings you know so well but have never seen in real life. The people too are great, just get out a map and look confused and a new yorker will stop and help, wonderful. Planning the next trip for December with the family, I really can't get enough of this wonderful cosmopolitan world.New York, New York State, USA Bonx Zoo Too! My first time in New York, and it was great we stayed in queens as it we went during peak time and hotels in Manhattan are really expensive but it wasn’t a big deal as it was only 20 minutes away by train so we managed to get in and out of the city pretty easily. We visited all the must see sites like the Empire state Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park etc. We also visited the Bronx Zoo which was lots of fun but very tiring as it is very big and we spend a whole day just walking around. New York, New York State, USA Shopping again and again.... Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Lizzy Date of travel: 16/07/2007
The big Apple is really big in every way! There is just so much to see and do that you can quite easily go there numerous times and not do the same thing twice. I went this past summer and it was hot as hell and it’s not even the type of hot we get here its much more grimy and sticky when it gets hot there. The good thing is that their trains have got air conditioning so it’s very comfortable to travel on their trains. I took full advantage of the exchange rate and went wild with the shopping and I would have done much more if we didn’t have to worry about the amount of weight you are allowed to bring back. Macys was probably the pick of the bunch for me, I am thinking of going and doing some pre-Christmas shopping again in November! Oh don’t forget to catch some Broadway shows while your there they are much better than the ones we have here.New York, New York State, USA Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Carly Date of travel: 10/12/2001
Wow I enjoyed every last minute of my stay in New York City! I visited Central Park, and the view was so beautiful.. I went round Christmas time and it was amazing, very busy though, plenty of tourists as well. 5th Avenue wasnt what I expected but still a good days shopping though. I also went on the Staten Island Ferry which was cool and then my next stop was the Rockefeller Center, that was a top experience as I enjoy Ice skating so this was a dream for me. The statue of Liberty was a good site see as well, especially at night... The hotel I stayed in was nice, wasn't 5 star but it was still big and beautiful and had a view to die for... I never wanted it to end, but sadly it did. Everything is so over sized in New York, food, shops, hotels, buildings etc, like Alice in wonderland..New York, New York State, USA Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Julie Date of travel: 05/09/2005
I've always wanted to visit New York and when I finally did the experience was well worth it! Top shopping for sure and good exchange rate as well... The Statue of Liberty was wicked, it gave me shivers up my spine... I just love all the big buildings and there is so much to see and do, it was a cool holiday... I even stopped a yellow taxi, that was well cool, I felt like a proper American. New York, New York State, USA I Love New York! Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Emma Date of travel: 18/12/2005
I Love New York! Well most of the time!
It's definitely somewhere that you have to see. Everything is so BIG! And there is so much to do! a weekend break or even a week isn't long enough. I went for a week at Christmas. Returning the day after Boxing Day.
The sightseeing and the atmosphere was fantastic. And the SHOPPING! It absolutely makes more sense to have sales BEFORE christmas rather than in January when you've already bought everything! Check out Fashion Avenue (where Macy's is) and Broadway. SHopping on 5th Avenue is overrated. We have H&M and Nike at home! CHeck out Bloomingdales... just to see the awesome sight of the shop floor you've EVER seen! but if you want to actually shop there then to beat the crowds there's another Bloomingdales on Broadway in Soho.
Standing at the top of the Empire State Building in December is incredible. It also makes it abundantly clear that Naomi Watts would have died of hypothermia had she actually been on top of there with King Kong in that strappy dress! I've never been so cold in my life! And I don't think I've ever seen so much of the earth at once (apart form looking out a plane window - of course!)
Give Ellis Island as miss. It's interesting but if you're not American and your ancestors didn't go through there on their way to the "new world"... you just dont get it! The same boat takes you to Liberty Island which is definitely worth the trip. The staute of liberty is smaller than I imagined but its amazing to see.
Ice Skating at the Rockafella Centre and the Radio City Christmas show... so cool! And Central Park is gorgeous in the winter.
Go to atleast one museum. The Guggenheim Museum was stunning.
For food check out China Town and Little Italy. Although if you're not into oversized burgers and bottomless coke and general obesity causing foodstuffs then you wont find much else outside of those areas. And salt is NOT flavour. Flavour is flavour! lol
I was there during the transit strike which was annoying as I had to walk EVERYWHERE. But I did hitch a ride with a Mum who was charging people to take them over the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan and met loads of REAL new yorkers also hitching rides. And the next day I had to walk over Manhattan Bridge to Canal Street which was FREEZING but stunning views of the city.

New York is a great city for a holiday and i wish i had time to stay longer than a week however you can get a lot done as most of the good stuff is in Manhattan. The Statue of Liberty and Empire State are must essential for any trip to NY. The only problem i had with new york is that its always so humid. I strongly recommend that anyone going on holiday to new york, shop till you drop! with so many great shopping malls and at the current exchange rate its well worth it. |
