New England, USA Reviews View Cheap Holidays To New EnglandNew England, USA A History Lovers Dream Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Christina Date of travel: 26/08/2005
The New England region is the smallest of the regions in the United States. It is composed of farmland, pasturing animals and a gentle climate. My cousins and I took holiday there to learn a good deal about American culture. Text books say that it played a major role in early American development because it was the country's cultural and economic center. Perhaps ideas from back then can help developing countries now. There was so much history in each brick and each state in the region and we went to each state: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. We visited Plymouth where the Mayflower first landed when the settlers first came over from England. We heard the plight of the slaves and saw the terrible inhumane conditions in which they were treated and kept. We saw the house that inspired the novel Little Women and we visited the Otis House Museum. We saw war reenactments and went to a place that is set up in the manner in which they lived in colonial times. People were dressed and spoke like they spoke. They cooked similar dishes and tended to the animals. They even had children playing the parts. The rich history was astounding. |
