Sorrento, Neapolitan Riviera, Italy Beautiful Sorrento

Italy - Sorrento is a beautiful small Italian town sitting atop high cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples. It is clean, safe, friendly, and a great jumping off point for day trips to surrounding locations in the Italian state of Campania. We were pleasantly surprised with Sorrento. It was a first stop on a 15-day vacation to Italy that my wife and I took to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Our 25-year-old son, 21-year-old daughter and their respective boyfriend and girlfriend accompanied us. We spent 5 days here. Subsequently we visited Rome, Venice, and Lake Como. Reports that Sorrento would be overcrowded and overpriced seemed to be exaggerated. Perhaps our visit in late May helped us enjoy great weather, while still avoiding the summer crowds. Sorrento is a very tidy, beautiful, and friendly place. They have been welcoming European tourists for over 200 years, and are very good at it. The scent of the abundant lemon groves coupled with the stunning views of the bay of Naples including Mount Vesuvius and topped off with quaint side streets made our stay a memorable one. Commuter trains from Naples easily reach Sorrento, and the train station is centrally located. The main street (Corso Italia) is intersected by Piazza Tasso, which is the centre of the town. From here you can easily walk down through a gorge to the beach or into the historic district for a wide variety of watering holes and restaurants. Just off the main Piazza there is an ancient building built in the gorge. It is lit with different coloured flood lights in the evening and is a very nice sight. The beaches would not be described as stunning Mediterranean beaches. There are a myriad of beach clubs offering chaise lounges and umbrellas atop cement piers and wooden platforms. Although not as typically ITALIAN as many other destinations, it is a great place to get your fix of sun, partying, limoncello, and ferries or buses to a wide variety of locations for day trips. Sorrento can visited on a budget staying in an Apartment and eat at moderately priced restaurants, or you can stay and eat very expensively.... but the views and memories are the same no matter what. We rented a three bedroom house located 900 meters from the train station and a 5 minute walk to Piazza S.Agnello: Sorrento Holidays House La Terrazza (http://www.SorrentoHoliday.info). It was clean and convenient and very roomy. There we several grocery stores and restaurants close by. I highly recommend this apartment - 100% residential and surrounded by lemon groves!

I absolutely loved sorrento, ive never been to a more beautiful part of the world, it's so easy to fall in love with. It's also in a fantastic location to visit many nearby areas off interest, there is loads to do and see. My favourite day we took a boat trip out to capris: it was simply magical. I would reccomend it to anyone who appreciates art and beauty. It would also be the perfect place to honeymoon - many hotels accomodate for this.

When me and my fiance visited Sorrento we really enjoyed everything about it. You also have Naples on your doorstep too. The Bay is absolutely out of this world, with a view you fall in love with. Sorrento has a pretty old town and great tourist locations. There was so many tourist their and every where you went was so crowded. We dined at the Piazza Tasso which was built on a gorge and you could look out to sea and relax at the same time. That was romantic.

If you want a veriety then Sant Agnello is the place to go. There is great beaches, hotels, restaurants and bars plus the natural history makes the holiday worth while. Me and my wife stayed in the Hotel Mediterraneo and the view overlooked the beautiful scenery of the bay and Naples and Vesuvius. It was amazing...

Maiori was a favorite holiday of mine, the resort is a traditional resort with a beach to die for... There were plenty of bars and restaurants to visit and the people were so friendly, you get that holiday feeling where you don't want it to end. Most of the resort is cheap and other places are that little bit dearer but every holiday destination is the same where ever you go. In the day time I enjoed swimming in the sea and snorkling, and in the evening I enjoyed meals out and drinking cocktails...

Ischia is a popular tourist attraction. The town is devided into two part: Ischia Ponte and Ischia Porto. I enjoyed a lazy day in the town of Casamicciola, its know for its thermal waters. I also visited the "mushroom" rock which is a major tourist attraction. If you enjoy tours and attractions then Oschia is the place to be.

No other word to describe it! Everything in this part of Italy is beautiful. The streets, the people, the food, the wines, the beach... EVERYTHING! Apparently in August it can get a bit too busy but we went at the end of September and it was perfect. Shopping is fantastic too!

Stayed at the Posa Posa Hotel in Amalfi. The location of the hotel is perfect and the authenticity of the area is really refreshing. I suppose you could just lie on the beach all day if that's what you're into but there is much more to this part of Italy. The nearby town centre has some really amazing wine bars and restaurants and lots of local people willing to help you with your italian.

This was my first trip abroad and it was the best introduction to travel I could have hoped for :-) Apparently our hotel restaurant left a little to be desired but I didn't notice. There were so many other places to eat who cares what the hotel cooks! THe wine was delicious especially the reds! Hired a car and explored all the towns of the area. Amalfi, Capri, Cliento.... all gorgeous and the weather is fantastically boiling!!!

I went to Naples for a week a few months back and it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. the food was fantastic and the financial centre is worth a visit but i found the rest of it to be pretty boring and it came across as a rough city just like it is assumed be the home of the italian mafia, although i didnt come across any trouble it just had this weird feel about it.
