View Cheap Holidays To IzmirIzmir Resort, Izmir, Turkey Basic stay for a good price Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Joe Date of travel: 05/08/2006
Stayed in the Guzel Izmir hotel for 5 nights. It was very basic but had a great Turkish appeal and was quite cheap. The staff was nice and understood the meaning of good service. Communication was a bit difficult because barely any English was spoken. The hotel was clean (for the most part) and provided towel and flats to walk around the bathroom. It is an old building which is reflected in the bathrooms and lobby but was maintained very well. It was only 12 minutes walking to the waterfront and shorter distances to shops and pubs. The hotel had a limited menu but all was very cheap as well. Only downside was the men hanging around the street in the Barber shops but they only stared at us when we passed, not speak to us.Cesme, Izmir, Turkey Time alone well spent Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Ashley Date of travel: 17/07/2007
The little town of Cesme is a good holiday to take on your own. It is extremely safe and is not a place where you will feel lonely if you happen to travel alone. One of the initial things that you see in entering the town is the springs and thermal baths around everywhere. My resort was cozy and clean and completely compatible with my personality. I loved sitting on the white sandy beaches watching the azure waters. Vendors on the beach side sold good food and spoke to you as if you were family. While in the area I had the chance to explore several other tourisitc sites I went to Alacati, Sifne Pasa Harbour and the Bay of Boyalik. They were all fantastic places, cheap to go to and well worth the time spent. I hired an instructor and learned how to wind surf. It must have been the best instructor because I learned how to stay in securely in only a couple of hours. At night I went to clubs and nights and made many friends. Women and men would come up and make free and easy conversation and invited me to eat with them the next days. Be either tourists or locals they were all nice all of the same. My personal favorite part of town was the Cesme Castle. Built I 1508 it displated all of the traditional characteristics of Ottoman Architecture and the tour was well worth the few pounds. The hot springs were very hot at 58 degrees Celsius but was curing and soothings. I might make Cesme my summer holiday home.Izmir, Turkey Crazy About Izmir Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Wilfred Date of travel: 02/01/2005
Izmir is the 3 biggest city in Turkey and is located on the shores of the Aegean Sea. We fell in love with Turkey and felt comfortable traveling throughout because we LOVED Izmir so much. We spent our first couple of days traveling to see the military sea ports and walking through the mountains. Breakfasts and lunches were on the waterfront promenade which had the cutest cafes. Although there was much history everywhere Izmir still kept up with the times with internet cafes, modern buildings and well constructed safe roads. I have been to my share of countries where you get tossed around on the bumpy bus rides and that was my fear for Turkey. Well completely the opposite.
My husband was honored to be in the place where the legendary home lived in 70BC. He is absolutely in love with the Odyssey and the Illiad so his heart jumped when we saw his home. One weekend I fell in love with the main bazaar located in the centre of the city. It was near the old Ottoman government mansion (which is my new home) and had so many foods and items to sell. We bought Turkish rugs and real bronze where. The locals use them to actually cook but we are going to but them on display at home.
Our trip was so busy that year because there was so much to do in Izmir. We enjoyed Kadifekale which is the ancient fortress that was built in view of the harbor and city in 4th century BC. Saat Kulesi (the clock tower) took up much room in our cameras. It was built in 1901 and is the symbol that you see in most Izmir postcards. We saw artifacts, traditional costumes and camel bridles at the Ethnography History museum and walked through the Ancient Ruins of The Agora. Since then we have been to 4 other countries on the coast. Thank you people of Izmir for making it unimaginably good.
Ozdere, Izmir, Turkey You Relax Not Party Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Shelly Date of travel: 13/07/2007
DO you want to Dance? DO you want to PARTY? Do you want to STAY up all NIGHT and have WILD times? Then I beg you, please do not go to Ozdere. Ozdere is a very very very quiet resort where this is not much to do outside of a few shops, eat and spend a lot of time at the beach and in the water. My 2 best friends and I chose it for our winter break spot and at first we were quite disappointed. Since we had stressful semesters we wanted to unwind and party but we turned our holiday into catching up on tons of missed sleep, eating breakfast in bed, and taking in the sun while lounging on the sand. For the nights were we wanted to let loose and have a really good time we took a taxi for 45 minutes to party at Kusadasi. That is where we had the party times of our lives where we ate dinner there, would go to a bar and then a club and return to Ozdere at 5am. Those were the times when we were glad for the quiet and last mornings. What much liked that the taxis would take us on a ride, give us their cards and when we were ready to be picked up we would call them. We did not pay a pence until the return journey was complete. Ozere is quiet but beautiful. I know that we expected something else but what we found was great too. I would go there on a romantic weekend or to take my mother to distress from her tough days. DO you want peace and quiet? Do you want to soak up the Sun? DO you want to relax? Then I urge you, please go to Ozdere.Kusadasi, Izmir, Turkey Good Clubs in Peaceful Resort Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Allen Date of travel: 23/11/2006
I would say that I went into town only 3 times on my two week holiday at the Kusadasi resort. I did not have to leave but thought since I was there, it would be nice to go. The resort had everything. There were restaurants, bars, and GOOD CLUBS, in a resort. That astounds me. Although it was a resort the clubs played good music and were open until all hours of the morning. There was not too much entertainment in the way of shows but the Kusadasi resort is more geared towards relaxation. Resort beach was peaceful and nice. The resort as a whole was extremely clean and held itself at a high standard of service. At times the Kusadasi was a bit busy, crowded and loud around the Irish bars but that was once in a while at night when everyone strove for good times. During the day I took day trips in the resort to ancient sites. When I did go into town I got to see a dolphin show, go on a jeep safari and got soaked on the water rides. I even ventured to Pygale beach which was a little more favorable than the resort beach and was a mere ?1 coach ride. You do get hassled to buy things at merchant shops but with a polite couple of assertive no's, the owners leave you alone. |
