My friend and I went on a trip with our Middle Eastern culture class last year and got to experience what we were studying for the entire semester. Israel is wonderful and full of tradition, history, and fun. They had us do everything: The old City, The Wailing Wall, The Promenade, Dome of the Rock, The Zoo, the Parks, Tower of David Museum, The Knesset, and the Yemin Moshe. We had sessions with Israelites who have lived there for over 80 years and told us about have things have changed. Eating at Restaurants people would speak to us (there was more English spoken that I imagined they would) and asks us questions and we did the same of them. There were many shops and street markets to explore and we got tons of items for really cheap. There were many cultural things that we had to learn before we arrived and it was good that we did. In the Middle East it is seen as dirty to use your left hand in greeting and in eating. I am a lefty so I had to learn how to do things with my right hand. Beware of the driving, it was like no one stopped or even followed the speed limit, including our coach driver. Everyone was casually dressed which made me very comfortable. We went to the market from the hotel in our everyday clothes which was perfect. Our hotel was awesome. It was pretty and big and no one was quiet so we never got in trouble. |
