Kalamaki, Zante, Greece kalamaki disappointment

Date of travel: 14/10/2010

Just back from a week in Kalamaki and was so glad Idid not book two weeks. Fro five days out of the seven we had thunder storms. Never seen so much lightening or heard so uch thunde in a week. The rain was also very heavy and seemed to take a while to dry up. One day we had to stay in apartment due to very heavy rain. Bad weather seemed never ending. The beach was also disappointing and very and dirty. There was little room for a seating area in the apartment at hotel and felt like I was sitting in a small hall with no living area when rain wa son. The fies were also a nuisance, no longer killed a few flies before even more appeared. Very little open even water park closed. Went to Zante, however again the haven's opened up and had to try and avoid the very heavy rain . Never met so many people who wanted to go home. People were trying to get a flight home early. The first I was glad to be home. Never again Kalamaki.

I had already booked before reading these reviews. Again, the property is in the same condition. It was very basic. My husband and 2 teenage daughters stayed in this villa (if you can call it a villa). The ceiling fan in the main room is pretty useless, the other fan was ok. I wanted to kill the cockerel, as said before 4.30am start. We did not feel we could sit out in the courtyard, due to the close proximity to the owners room and toilet. I slipped down the steep hill on the first day. We complained to the rep and she pointed out the small print about general noise and all in all was pretty useless. We were offered accomodation outside of Lindos, but Lindos is where we wanted to be, as it is special to us and it was our anniversary. We made the most of Lindos and spent as little time as possible in the villa. Lindos is lovely, but avoid this accomodation.

Well not much has changed. We saw the other review after booking. My bed was close to collapse, the hole is still in the ceiling. Wardrobes still padlocked. Cooker had improved. Cockerels and chickens still there.. The owners still living in the one room, five of them sleeping in there. When we sat out in the courtyard having breakfast in the morning they would use their toilet which was off the courtyard or sit and smoke. In the late evening there was no peace because they had their door open and the television blaring. We did get cleanish towels and sheets each day. Rubbish from previous guests was under the beds. We knew that there was a steep climb but it was really steep and slippy. Nowhere in the brochure did it state that the villa was unsuitable for elderly or infirm. The rep was useless. We phoned the main office and after a day were offered a hotel room outside Rhodes...for five of us. Lindos is beautiful and we made the best of it. Olympic should not have this accomodation on there books. They are out to rip people off. Their car hire and trips were 50 % more expensive than everywhere else. I certainly do not recommend them to anyone.

We were not impressed, we went there for the nightlife but it was really quiet & also because alot of the clubs dont have a licence to open past 12, when a police car drives past after 12 they turn the music off untill it goes ! Out of the whole week i think we went out 3 times at night 2 of which we were back at our apartment by 12ish. It may have got more livley since we went but i certianly will not be going back.

Sissi is surely a wonderful lovely village! This was our fourth time to spend our vacation in Sissi and we'll keep coming back to this place. When you walk at the village centrum and then go down to the harbor, you’ll be surprised (if you're there for the first time) to find restaurants/tavernas where you can enjoy a meal or even just a drink , relax and smell the sea! We choose to book apartments because it's really fun to eat at the local restaurants where good and authentic Greek foods are served and in that way support the local restaurant-holders. In fact, we have our favorite restaurant "The Pink Flamingo", located just when you go out of the village center going to Palm Bay and to the Vasia Beach Hotels. At the very opposite of Ariadne Supermarket is the "Pink Flamingo “restaurant. I tell you, you'll keep coming back to this restaurant once you meet the lovely owners George and Maria and their two lovely girls and once you have tasted their hospitality and most of all the food! The grilled Dorado is superb. More power to George's chef Petros! It's worth trying to get in touch with the locals when you choose such a place as Sissi as your vacation destination. Sissi has one sandy beach and some rocky beaches but you could rent a car from any of those several Rent-A-Car- companies spread all over the village and go find a sandy beach somewhere else. We have booked another vacation in October in Agios Nikolaos but we’ll surely come back to visit Sissi.

I am 22 and have already visited Skiathos 3 times. The island is full of green with lots of beautiful golden beaches, Skiathos town is full of little tourist shops, bars and restaurants without it being too busy. Greek culture is one of the things I most thrived on in Skiathos as the locals are very friendly. I stayed in the town as the bars and the main beach is on your doorstep. I am planning on going again now I have a family of my own as this is a very family friendly place.

We went on a family holiday in August 2007 to the Sellini apartments and had the best holiday ever. We received a warm, friendly welcome from Jimmy and his family that set the tone for a fantastic stay. The accomodation was excellent (bearing in mind the basic standards in Greece). The apartments were cleaned on a daily basis along with the fantastic pool area. The main heart beat of Alikes is approx 15 minutes away with plenty of tavernas and bars to sit and relax. The whole resort is geared up to cater for the tradtional english family. Definately worth walking to the near Alikanas beach for the shallow waters that are ideal for the kids and a cool breeze to take away the scorching heat. All in all the best family holiday we have ever had, so much so we have already booked for 2008. If you want the party life then you need to go to Laganas, if not then get yourself a relaxing holiday break at Alikes.

Date of travel: 11/07/2007

The worst holiday we ever had. Four 60 somethings who always go self catering because we enjoy that type of holiday. All we wanted was somewhere clean and quiet for a relaxing break. The place was tatty, a bed collapsed, a chair collapsed, there was a hole in the ceiling where the fan should have been. The wardrobes were padlocked because the owners, who seemend to be living in one room overlooking the courtyard, kept their belongings in them. The cooker was a dirty thing sat on a collapsing, knee high table placed right outside the back bedroom door, the handle of which fell off when we tried to make some toast. The views from the back bedroom consisted of a yard full of broken pallets, rubble and rubbish. Also, confined no more than ten feet from the bedroom window, and on the same level, there was a cockerel and some chickens kept in a scruffy pen made of wire and wooden pallets. The cockerel started crowing at 4.30 am and kept on till 8.30am. We had no help from the Olympic rep and after three nights we had to find our own alternative accommodation. It has taken ten months of letter-writing and going to ABTA and the IRDS, to get back the extra money we had to pay out. My advice, steer well clear unless you get a cast iron guarantee that all the problems have been rectified.

Staying in the Garden Hotel in Pastida is a wonderfull and idillic experience. A small village with so much to offer. You are made to feel very welcome and everything is personal. The largest and most beautifull pool on Rhodes island is just one of the many features of this hotel. There are plenty of shops and tavernas to visit, The hotel also runs shuttle service to Rhodes town and beaches, with numerous trips which are extremely good value for money. Would highly recommend to both couples and families.

I have been fortunate enough to visit Lindos several times and am very reluctant to holiday anywhere else. It is without doubt the most beautiful, relaxing, cosmopolitan, stylish yet laid-back place I have every holidayed in. I always holiday alone and find that Lindos suits single female travellers completely. The atmosphere is amazing and I always feel relaxed and very much at home. You are very well looked after in all of the local bars and restaurants and you quickly make friends with the staff/owners who want to make your visit enjoyable. It's hard to do it justice but I truly believe that I leave a little bit of my heart there every time I leave. It is my intention to move there permanently when I am in a financial position to do so. Please give it a try - I get very passionate about wanting everyone to sample it's magic

Malia is a party resort for the younger generation, I wish I had made the decision to get out there 10 years ago as the atmosphere is just brilliant and there are rows of bars blaring music and everyone just seems to be having a great time. I think however I would have preferred a more relaxed holiday as I have lost the party animal in me, I would have liked to have a nice peaceful resort where my girlfriend and I could have spent some quality time and enjoyed each others company. So I would say if you are looking for late nights out and drinking and partying then perfect go to Maalia but its not a place for romantic holidays.

A must do is the Kontokali Bay Hotel private beach. Spotless….gorgeous…..not too many people…sparkling. A wonderful beach experience with people at hand to cater to you and wide selection of bars and restaurants. Very posh and upscale but nice to do once in a while. On the other end, the village of Kontokali was very run down. In order to attract more tourism, they should run maintenance on the entire place. Its saving grace was the marina which was better looking and had more places in which to eat and drink. 100% all of the way every single last taverna in Kontokali had top notch food at very reasonable prices. There was a lot to discover in Kontokali and had great food and cleanliness but the run down look of the town made people want to turn away and miss the hidden treasure that lies within.

Paxos, Greece A Special Time for Celebration

Rating: 9/10
Submitted by: Lucille
Date of travel: 30/12/2006

Little baby blue Paxos…The stage of our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We flew 15 of our children, their spouses and grandchildren out to the island with us and not one of them had a complaint. We all enjoyed flying into Corfu and then taking a nice ferry ride to the island. After the long flight it was good for everyone to be able to relax and see our island from a distance on the ferry. When we got off the ferry some of the children stood there with their mouths open. They thought Paxos was so beautiful. The screams of excitement at the hotel had me and Vinnie laughing as well. The kids were not attached to anyone for long because Paxos had several forms of transportation and they all were nice to the pockets. Everyone had their chance at shopping, eating, taking out boats, going on day trips, and some of them hired cars to do their own unscheduled touring of the space. At certain points the group would get together again on the beach and eat. The water was as clear as a swimming pool. Whenever the little ones dove underwater we could see their movements and actions. Paxos was an ideal backdrop for anniversary romance and family time. I really got to have longer conversations the grands Oscar, Sam, Niskisha, Tarqui. Paxos is perfect all around for any holiday desire.

Mykonos, Greece For the Best Holiday

Rating: 10/10
Submitted by: Flaviana
Date of travel: 28/03/2007

Mykonos should be the first thing that pops into anyone’s mind when the word holiday is mentioned. There is a whole world of exciting activity and journey in this Cyclades Island. All of its beauty is natural and not touched up by man. Every step that is taken is privileged to be walking in its rich history. It was nice for my mother and me to be able to have the cosmopolitan feel without it being too commercialized. Although the island is small we never wanted for anything to keep us busy. We took tours around the island and day buses around the city area. We shopped on the colorful harbour and looked on to the old fishing boats which were in contrast to the modern cruisers. My mother suggested that we eat seafood on the water so we went into a restaurant that is docked floating. It was very nice and had a cool feel to it. I just feel that Mykonos had a special charm about it. It was a very genuine and unlike any other holiday that I had the fortune to take. The whole island felt good and looked good. The weather was warm and dry and the sunny brightly shone every day of our trip. It is a prime holiday location and if anyone asks me I will continue to say that Mykonos makes for the best holiday.

Fun time hanging out with the locals. They were honest and friendly people who would talk to you in the shops, on the streets, in the clubs, and at the beach. Really laid back feel. Mouth watering dishes be them Greek or other land dishes (like hamburgers). Most of the Tavernas suggested that tourists try the Greek dishes before anything else. Once we did we were hooked to the Greek food. We tried to make them at home but it was not the same as it was in Greece. The beach had more stones than sand but it did not matter because it was not too hard on the feet. The sun and excellent waters made up for that anyway. Most of our time was spent in the actual village and that is where the fun and genuine Greek aspects lie. You should do the same.

Kefalos, Kos, Greece Anyone for Kefalos for Holiday

Stayed in Kefalos for holiday. It was a fabulous stay. The beach was close to all of the apartments and hotels. Places of entertainment were also close to our hotel and the apartments. I think that Kefalos is known for windsurfing and sailing. There were several tournaments of both water events during our stay. It was also very cheap and easy to get lessons for both of these events because all of the local people competed to get your business so that they could teach you how to be confident in the water. It was different that the beach officials allowed us to sail at sunset and then to late hours than usual at night. We believe that it is because there was so much activity going on, on shore so they could monitor who was out there. They also took down our names and had us check in as we came back inland. Warm and friendly town with everything to do under the sun.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed Kos, Greece. It has retained much of its Greek character but kept us happy by having new things like air condition, the latest food products and good music. From all of the land and boat day trips we saw that this island was much bigger than we originally thought. We had to take 4 trips to cover practically most locations and each trip was a day long trips. We enjoyed the water and the water activities. The restaurants and the shops had most of their places to each and choose items out side. We got a lot of fresh air untainted by spoke from cars or people.

For a splendid camping trip/holiday adventure, you might to try Kefalonia, Greece. The woods are lush and are composed of tall healthy trees. The lake is a combination of green, teal and blue waters. The mountains are huge and look as if they invite you to hike them. And the land, designed for the coolest camping trip of your life. For those who just want the holiday scene, golden sand kissed by warm pretty waters. Smooth pebbles mixed in with sand for stronger castles and running games. Snow capped tips of Mount Ainos where protected wildlife roam around and can be caught by cameras. Driving along Finari road offers more to the average tourist. The restored watermill that is operational. At Katavothres be witness to the intriguing swallow holes where the water of the sea disappears from sight and travels underground and then reappears again 30km away on the other side of the island. So much to do and see in the villages with the village people. All the houses are nice and everyone has so much land that has been in their families for decades. Traditional with the touch of new. Places to camp, relax, and unwind.

The small village of Sissi is a wonderful little place located about 35 minutes from the airport. We hired a mini bus as there were 6 adults and 2 children and it was a simple drive to the resort. Initially as we pulled into Sissi we noticed the small restaurants and tavernas surrounding the bay and thought it looked lovely. Our hotel the Vasia Beach resort was about 1km out of the village. A simple walk in the evenings, even for the children. The whole atmosphere in this area is relaxed and easy going, with the people being very friendly and helpful. The vasia beach is a wonderful hotel too. With 4 pools, plenty for kids to do, good quality food and a football pitch what more could I want. would we return? yes we would and most probably will!

The huge beach at Mastihari is definitely the main attraction – for those with a family there’s a water park 3km from the village. The village is quiet with a few bars and tavernas, if you’re after night life Kardamena is only a 15 minute taxi ride away. I would recommend a day trip to the nearby island of Kalymnos; it’s very traditional and famous for its sponge diving.

My favourite place was Lambi beach where I spent the vast majority of my time; I think I would have slept on the beach if I could. You can’t really understand the extent of the power the beach has until you actually go there and experience it. The long stretch of beach is beautiful and clean with blue waters going as far as the eye can see. There are great opportunities for water sports and you should make the most of them. There are some really nice restaurants just off the beach and there are a few bars for some light evening entertainment.

If you want to get out & about the beautiful village of Lindos is a 10 min drive away, and if you’re not hiring a car there’s the hourly bus but this only runs to 7.30pm off season. There is wonderful mountain in the backdrop of the resort which offers a spectacular view across the resort. The theory is that people started to spill over from Zante Town as it is only a short walk away and discovered that Argassi is a fantastic place as well which I must agree with. There is everything there from sandy beaches to clear blue waters and the food is also very good.

The resort was too small for me. Clean, quiet and cool entertainment but a little too cliché. Yes there was a beach and bars and restaurants but not too much more. No room for anything new save the tasting of authentic Greek food. There were a multitude of families enjoying each other and running from place to place doing things laid out for them by travel guides. I finally got to experience something new when I looked over the water in a particular area of the beach and saw a brilliant view of Turkey and another Greek Island. Shallow water where you can walk out for at least seven minutes and still be only the begging of chest deep and strong winds that made it possible for the waves to carry you along. I got a better view from way out there. Discos were nice but commonplace and the only played one song from a Greek artist. We ended up booking a lot to day excursions to tour around and found some interesting sights. I just wished that it stayed more authentic Greek.

This place was perfect for my crazy family. Eating is always a problem for us but Kos Town solved that for us. Not only did it offer traditional Greek food but also had McDonalds, Chinese, Indian and Italian food. There were lots of places to sit down with your people, drink and talk about life. The roads were a challenge to get through but always a laugh and adventure. If a moped is not on your tail a car or bicycle is. Nice and small, personal and entertaining. The atmosphere was a treat and the people are delight. We took a boat across to Turkey because they go out on a daily basis but were happy to comeback for more Kos Town fun. The area in old town was the most stunning. The harbour looked mystical in the moonlight and we ate meals on small boats. We did not spend too much time on the beaches even though they were splendid. We had too much other things to try and fit in.

The room opened up to a lovely pool/sea view and a nice breeze rushing through the bedroom was perfect. The people of Sani are very pleasant and make you feel at ease. The food and drink was a reasonable price and the cocktails were mouth watering, they know how to make a good drink that’s for sure. In the evening the resort would light up like Blackpool pleasure beach and the bars and restaurants would turn into open street parties. By day the resort was nice and quiet, just how it should be and at night the whole resort lit up and came alive. It was great.

I enjoyed a walk through the old villages and cobbled streets, the old building were superb, very well looked after and the village was very clean. The beach had mountains all the way round the coast, the view was jaw dropping. This is what Greece is all about, the historic features and its past life. My hotel was based in the centre of Afitos which I truly enjoyed. There was small cafe's, bars, shops and restaurants all knitted closely together. It was amazing and cosy looking, you felt comfortable and at home. I also discovered the semi-secret cove which was a top feature and an amazing experience to see. I recommend you to visit Afitos, you will not be disappointed.

This family holiday to Polichrono, Halkidiki was an enjoyment. The Hotel Odysseas was small but comfortable, not quite as stylish as I would have liked but over all, the hotel was clean and friendly. You can't ask for much more than that. The whole complex was great, with a games room for the children and a gym/sauna area for the adults so there was pretty much something for everyone. The aqua park was fun, not only did the kids enjoy it, so did I... And a trip to the beach afterwards to chill, nice scenery and great facilities for everyone, they make there guests feel very welcome and at home. I did a spot of wind surfing but I was in the sea mainly and not surfing, and a go on the jet bikes was top. Once the day was over we would head back to the hotel and have a family meal then head out for the evening, there was a bar called Tommy's which catered for children as well as the adults so that was good. We were all very happy with our stay and would enjoy another holiday there again sometime.

The Pella Studios were great, they would put on BBQ's every evening and every one would get together and have a laugh. By the 4th day everyone knew each other so it was like a family holiday. The pool was small but it was adequate for the size of the studios and guests who were staying. The resort is very welcoming, the locals are the best, you would want for nothing. A few yards down the road you would come to the beach and you could join in the fun. It was so much fun; I never knew a holiday could be so enjoyable and homely. As it was only me and my daughter, most evening we would stay at the hotel bar and speak with the other guest, but there was a few night clubs and bars for the younger ones if they fancied a night out.

The resort was very run down but at night it was a teenager?s paradise, which wasn't my idea of fun. There were kids shouting and singing all night long, bottles everywhere, and kids being sick in the hotel corridor. Either I chose a bad time to go or this is a place to miss.

We were staying in The Lesse hotel which was worth the money I paid. The facilities were fantastic. You can't knock it. The room had two bedrooms and an en suite and a family bathroom. The lounge was very cosy and the kitchen was very modern and stylish. Proper home from home. The hotel bar served food until 10pm and the evening entertainment was basic, especially for a hotel. The resort had various entertainment nights, with discos, karaoke, and live music and much more, Crazy Jo's was a laugh, with miss wet t-shirt competitions and table top dancers. And there were also dancers who would get you on stage and show you up big time. The clubs were open till late, so if you?re 18 to 30 then you would not have a problem. I never wanted it to end, I wanted to book another week but the hotel was fully booked up... Shame..

All I gotta say is, if you book a holiday to Halkidiki then stay at the Oceania Club Hotel. It was drop dead gorgeous. Nothing can beat this hotel, no way. The pool is so amazing, with the ocean in the distance and mountain views, it was out of this world. There was also an inside pool too, it was a like a spa complex. The rooms are like heaven, massive bed with TV and a huge front room/kitchen and a large bathroom with marble floors. WOW! The hotel restaurant is like 5 star service, 3 course meal and a free glass of bubbly with your main course. And there was a huge fireplace, even though it wasn't lit, it was gorgeous. The bar was free for the guest up to a certain time then you had to pay, I thought that was reasonable and the staff were very friendly and kind too. The resort was nice, great evening night life and my favorite bar was the Venus bar, where you could play pool and darts and dance on the bar, just how I like it. You can't beat Halkidiki, the people, the food, hotels, entertainment, beaches... Nothing will ever compare. The weather wasn't as hot as I would of liked but I have heard it can be to hot and unbearable so I was happy with the time I went.

The beach was just round the back from the hotel and resort so if you fancied wind surfing and a boat ride you knew where to go. The bars in the evening were great, we hit the Millennium Bar which was ok, not as good as the comments I?d been hearing and the Enigma Nightclub was brill, full of top dance music and the drinks were cheap too. Another bar we went to was the Wicky Wacky Bar which I thought was cool I have to admit. I would certainly go back and I would even stay in the same hotel as it was very clean and cosy plus very friendly..

The beach wasn't far so you had the best of both with Mango Beach Bar one of the favorite bars of the day time. In the evening the hotel would put on a bingo night, I love bingo so this was a treat and there would be a quiz night and play your cards right on another night, so there was plenty to do. Me and my friends would visit the Eutopia Cocktail Bar first and then head to Joker?s Cocktail Bar which was close to the XL club where we would finish the night off. It was so much fun.

There wasn't a pool area but there was some gardens which was very small and there were trees every where so there wasn't much sun bathing areas, it was also never busy which was strange. Everyone would head to the beach where there was water sports and beach volley ball. The hotel never had a bar but there was a mini bar in the room and it was very pricy too. 8 euros? for a small vodka and 4 euros? for a small tonic water. Ouch! In the evening we would head to the bars where there were free shots with every drink you ordered, tequilas, after shock and some other strong stuff... No wonder they wanted to get rid of it, it was lethal! One bar called Juice, the staff would come round to every table and top up your glass for nothing, that was great but you had to get there early other wise you had no chance.

But the second time was so much different, every bar would compete against each other and you had the reps trying to drag you in the bars, you were never left alone to just wander around and see which places were best, that was the annoying part. There was a bar called Randy's though which was located next to the beach front which wasn't too loud or cramped either, and Clippers was right next door so you had a choice of 2 lively but fun bars to drink in. The hotel I stayed in was called Louros Beach hotel and it was nice and quiet, very cosy looking, and relaxing. It was a 2 minutes stroll to the beach where you could find a mixture of bars and restaurants, plus you would get the odd local trying to sell you drinks, pieces of pineapple and melons on the beach but it was good fun though.

The new town is much more contemporary and is buzzing with life but you better do you?re shopping early as the city winds down for a Siesta in the afternoon for a few hours before roaring back to life in the early evening. Don?t get carried away with shopping on the main street as the prices can be pretty high so make sure you look around. This is a fab destination for families, there's a good selection of bars & restaurants and water sports galore! The beach is about half a mile long, it's a mix of sand & pebbles, and there are sunbeds to rent. Our accommodation was located away from the main strip but the nightlight was fairly low-key, mainly taverna-based.

Lixouri, Kefalonia, Greece Get away from the tourists

Lixouri is a quiet resort, a far cry from your traditional tourist haunts. The seaside village has some of the best beaches on the island of Kefalonia. The town square is a great place to get a drink and watch the world go by. The town is a little isolated but scooters are available to hire at very reasonable rates or there's the local bus. Want to explore a bit further a field then get a ferry over to Argostolli it only takes 30 minutes.

Warning to all visitors to Paleokastritsa, make sure you are fairly fit as the village is pretty steep and will require a lot more energy to explore than some of the more flatter resorts. Paleokastritsa has got the most wonderful beaches and spectacular scenery which will have you in awe of the village. There are some pleasant bars and restaurants that serve good food and offer a friendly atmosphere like, the Spiros Taverna which had some really good food and the staff was very friendly.

Unless you have a family or a significant other, keep away from Nissaki as that's the kind of people the resort is for. Families and couples who want to get away from the crowd and enjoy a resort with a bit more local flavour will find Nissaki the perfect resort for a vacation. The is good variety of water sports and the beach is nice but the nightlife is a bit dull and you will have to go a bit further for some excitement.

My visit to Moraitika, Greece was a very good as my whole family enjoyed it. Moraitika is ideal for a family holiday with lots of fun activities for everyone and great facilities for the kids. The shallow waters and clean beaches are perfect for the children to enjoy a splash. Taking a stroll through the village is refreshing and you will find some really good restaurants and caf's along the way. There is a very good nightlife to enjoy in the village with many bars and clubs for those traveling without kids.

It is a pleasant experience walking through the village and enjoying a light snack one of the local caf's. The beach is nice and clean and not too crowded so as long as you get there at a reasonable hour you can pretty much pick your spot to lay down your beach towel. If you want a bit more adventure then you can make the small trip to Moraitika which is only 10-15 minutes away.

It looks like the resort was made for couples and retired people as it seems like an uneventful village. Although a small boat ride away will bring you to Mouse Island which is worth a visit. The food in Kanoni is pretty good and some of the caf's a restaurants offer wonderful views facing the water. For those interested in history will find the oldest church in Corfu here, the Paleopolis Basilica is a nice historical attraction.

I specifically went to Dassia as a few of my friends had been before and they said it was great, especially for water sports and being a water baby I thought it would be perfect for my holiday. Saying that the beach was clean would be an understatement, it was spotless and the water was clear and calm. The people were pleasant, a lot of them were British and the food was okay. If you love the beach and want to have some real fun in the water than I strongly recommend Dassia for your next holiday.

Looking at photos while planning where to go I almost flew to Plakias same day. Plakias is just a lovely gift for all of the senses. Striking blue water and mountain ranges that demanded respect made you stand and look around in admiration. Every time I took out my book to read on the hotel balcony I got distracted looking at others enjoying the beach or at the backdrop of every hotel. For full experience pleasure we went on the Boat Trip Daily Cruise where we say beaches of only 9 people, walked into caves and snorkeled, swam, walked, and bathed under the sun. The water felt warm to the touch and the fresh air refreshed the nose. Our hotel had the most enjoyable staff with clean rooms and bathrooms and food of which I asked for the recipes. The photos that I saw before the trip only gave a glimpse of what we enjoyed.

Rethymnon is ideal for older couples. My parents traveled there to celebrate 42 lovely years together and they said it was the perfect pace for them. Being rich in history of over 1000 years they entertained themselves by taking tours and visiting the museums. For eats and conversation they went to the centre where the joined other couples to discuss the younger days and the tragedies of these times (better other couples than me!). They told me that the environment was quite lovely and relaxing and that it was very interesting to learn about the history of the place that they were visiting today. I saw pictures and became fascinated with the beauty and historical sights.

Hersonissos, Crete, Greece 11 Villages in 1 Month

Submitted by: Andrew
Date of travel: 27/07/2006

Hersonissos is the land of eleven villages and we did them all. My friend and I went to: Agriana, Analipsis, Anissaras, Avdou, Gonies, Limin Hersonissos, Kera, Koutouloufari, Old Hersonissos, Piskopiano, and Potamies. Since the Hersonissos villages were so full of life, beauty, tradition, friendliness and history we opted to spend 2 to 3 days and 1 or 2 nights in them all. In Agriana we admired the churches and eat along the river. In Gonies we hiked in the mountains and celebrated the festival of Our Lord with the villagers and ate food, had service and laughed. Kera was the place of worshipping practices that we never heard of and weird ritual ceremonies and dress. Old Hersonissos was a tropical paradise where we swam and took pictures by the palm trees. Every village had its own culture and variety of character. Each one is worth visiting and if you can visit them all it is all the better. And don't worry about booking places to sleep beforehand. Being so small there is always space and they allow you to share.

My time at Koutoulfari village (in Hersonissos) was o.k. It was nice because it had a lot of modern features but it was still way too traditional. It was pretty but quiet and the things they had for us were way too touristy. We got to speak to the people of the village and discovered that we did not have that much in common. The mountains and the see made the town look extra nice and we did explore them. We took a tour around the village and learned a lot but once you saw everything once, there was no point in seeing it again. We spend much time in restaurants and caf's but there was no where to dance or listen to modern music. When there was dancing it was traditional, they did cool step and I liked seeing them but I did miss my music. I took pictures that were admired by friends but I felt that we could have done Koutoulfari in a day.

Chania has the planet's collection of bravura hotels. All of them are big and unique, and beautiful and splendid and fancy. There is the Casa Maria, the Majestic, Castle Suites, the Cretan Dreams, and our hotel, Creta Dream Royal. WONDEFUL Creta Dream Royal had everything we needed and more. It is a Hotel and Apartments and is fit for every member of the family. Its swimming pool is the size of a small river and the rooms make you pull out your camera so you can remember paradise. The center of Chania was only 6km from us and we walked to Stalos beach. The hotel is built on the hill so from the lobby to the balcony you had a great view of the town. If we needed to shop for anything, we hopped on the main road right there. We got to explore Agia Marinam, a city with the best bars and eateries because there were free buses to the site. The hotel itself looked like a small Aztec village. Bright green grass and turquoise water, beige cement walls and walkways. The loveliest hotel just outside of the White Mountains and Mediterranean. You must go tomorrow.

Date of travel: 06/07/2007

Great place to holiday if you are after peace, quiet and calm conversation. Elounda is a remarkably charming resort section. There are several small villages that are very close together where you can go around and hold dinner or conversations with the people. If they see that you are not from around the area they invite you to chat and eat. Bring wine and a smile and expect a good time. Outside of the villages is a harbor which is worth visiting. Schisma is the main street on which you will shop for holiday necessities and gifts. Although there are several villages it in no way resembles a large town or noisy city. It is big and modern enough to have banks, books, story and a small cinema. The pharmacies look top notch and if you are looking for a place that has more variety than Camden town, this is the place every Friday morning. Needless to say that weekends start a day early here.

Gouves, Crete, Greece Fit of Adonis

Date of travel: 17/11/2006

We stayed in the Adonis Apartment in Gouves Crete and we considered making it our new home. Our apartment was very clean and in it was internet connection, fridge, small oven, shower, and two good size beds. At times it became hot so service brought us fans without a fuss. But we did not spend too much time in the room because we had a balcony in the front and back of the apartment. A new and welcomed gift, to the front were the mountains and to the back were big olive trees. The pool big and beautiful was never over crowded. You could buy drinks and food and enjoy them poolside. The apartments were located in a quiet area of Gouves in sort of a quiet nook but were in walking distance of the beach and busier areas. The beach also was very spacious and not overrun with people. My husband thought the name of the apartments was inspired but the mythical god so he chose them thinking that they would treat us accordingly. It turned out that the owners we name Maria and Adonis, but they did treat us with the utmost hospitality. They offered at snack bar that was free for those staying in the hotel and those who resided in Gouves, That was another first for us. Even inside of Gouves town it was still quiet but had lots of bars and restaurant to dine and relax. The residents were happy to tell you about their culture and were very interested to hear about yours. Even though it is a small town everything was open until late hours. You could still order traditional dishes at 1 in the morning. To conclude we would recommend this town and these apartments to anyone, especially couples and families. It is quiet and you do not have to work to find your way around to see everything on your holiday. We do not have a single complaint and we would definitely go back soon.

Our travel agent told us about SIssi, Crete when we described to her what we were looking for in a holiday. We wanted small, safe, and family oriented. Sissi is a very small town that is very tradition. It is a fishing town and it was wonderful to see fathers take their children out to catch dinner. A town's person took my husband and son out fishing with him and his sons. To my surprise they caught fish of which I was not shy to refuse cleaning them. Instead his wife cleaned and I cooked them. It was very nice. For water fun we took rest on the beach of the Aegean sea. The entire atmosphere was relaxing especially at the Sissi Bay holiday complex. Our room had the most comfortable furniture and all of the amenities that you could ask for. I felt quite silly upon driving up to the resort because I thought we would have to go with out electronics for a while but that was not the case. There was enough room on the terrace where we admired the mountains and gardens. SIssi Bay complex was amazing with its step tiered roof, clean pool, and tree leaf umbrellas. There was even a play ground in which our son could play. I have phoned our agent to plan for us again.

Kokkini Hani is only a 15 minute drive from the airport which makes it the closest by far. Not only is it refreshing that after early morning traveling you can put your things down right away but it also had a beach right there. I took my wife there to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was the perfect place to be. I was told that it was the quietist place on the island, which I wanted so that I could spend quiet time with her. It was our escape from it all. We ate at the restaurants on the shore looking at the sun as it set behind the water. We did not have to go outside of the Kokkini Hani resort for anything because there were shops of ceramics, fashion jewelry and authentic leather right there. That resort was our everything. For culture, we visited the ruined city walls and the Mororsini fountain. We danced to Greek music after Sunday brunch. I have never felt so relaxed and in touch with her.

I went with my class to Stalis and we all had a blast. Instead of staying in a boring hotel, we went to the Villa Rista Apartments that was owned and serviced by a man named George. He was super nice and super adorable and helped us with what ever we needed. The rooms were awesome because they were clean and decorated in the style of the town. By staying in them we were less than 10 minutes from the strip where the fun times went on. One Sundays he had a BBQ with games, pool time, competitions, Karaoke and delicious food. The apartments left us not too far from the beach either. One thing that I did not like was that the beach was very small and always full of people. It was nice and you could to water sports but at times there was not even enough room to lay out. I did love that there were so many bars and clubs to go to. We went to like 25 of them between the group. We would pre-game at the apartments because the bar was right there and cheap, then go out to the strip. Man, the clubs and bars played like American and UK music. And the best part was Golden beach. It was this traditional restaurant that cooked great food and did that plate smashing thing. I threw my plate. How cool was that!!!!

I had a short holiday in Aghias Nikolaos, Crete. It was a delightful town that carried on the appeal of authentic Greece but maintained the feel of a cosmopolitan city at the same time. For big nights and days we went to night clubs, jet skied and tanned on the beaches, played golf on the Greek golf course and toured the city. For low key nights and days went to the aquarium (where we saw species that we strange to us), watched movies in Greek with subtitles, and visited the tavernas for Greek drink and good food. Upon returning home I taught me sister some of the steps from the old time dancing that we learned. I bought her bouzouoki music that we danced too. It was odd going from dancing to bouzouki and then Shakira.

I have just returned from Crete and had to write straight away in order to capture my emotions while they are still fresh. First and foremost I must admit that I was rather smitten by Crete before we even traveled because it a rather large island of grace and beauty. Every hotel or residence we passed was marvelous. Our hotel had a fa?ade that would leave the strongest man weak in the knees. The food at the hotel and around town had wonderful flavor, even to my fianc? who is a picky eater. We ensured that we visited many small establishments so that we could eat traditional Greek dishes accompanied by Greek wine. As expected from an island, the night time outings were very impressive. We danced to Greek, American, and English latest music and as well as learned traditional Greek dances. You should have seen the young girls dance their hearts away. A four year old happened to dance circles around us all. The beaches and the sky were perfect stages for the sun. The sun danced all day and night and brought vibrant colors with it. I wish that I could have spent more time in Crete to fully experience what it had to offer. Crete seems as if it is suitable for anyone because of the variety.

The harbour was nice and you could also see the remains of the Kassiopi castle which we explored. The ruins were amazing and it was a good experience. In the evening the resort opened up into a bar/club land and came alive, the De 'Ja vu bar on the harbour front was top. It was full of youngsters and it was a right laugh. We are going to go back but not just yet as we have planned another liveley holiday to Ibiza to compare the difference, but I doubt it will beat Kassiopi as its a top place to stay...

I stayed in the Corfu Chandris Hotel and we had a pool/sea view, the hotel was lovely, came with room service and free breakfast but you never spent hardy any time there as there was so much to do. We went to the Dive Easy Diving Center for the day and swam with all the fish, and then we went to the Solomos Museum too and that was brill. Most of the time we just lounged by the pool or went to the beach and have a snorkel and go on the pedal boats. Top holiday.

I also took a coach to Falaraki for the day and the drive there was cool, not much to see except old villages and run down buildings. The time i went was so scorching, you could not breath, and that was the coolest part of summer as well. I enjoyed Rhodes and would go back again.

Malia is a very noisy place and if you are looking for a quiet and tranquil break than i suggest you go somewhere else in Greece because Malia is definately for the drinking party crowd, my personal favourite club was the Red Lion but there are so many new ones popping up all the time its hard to keep up.

Everyone there just wants to have a good time and party the nights away. There are so many bars and clubs that you can choose a different one each day. The nightlife in Malia is brilliant as there is a road with bars, bars, bars to choose from. Great party atmosphere and fun and friendly people around you. Oh and not forgeting the food was quality. We partied every night and got home at 7am in the morning each day. Slept a bit, and straight to the beach which was really nice too, clean sand and water.
