Benalmadena, Costa del Sol, Spain Great Location To Get About

Benalmadena, this is great central location for getting around the Costa del Sol and my favourite mainland Spanish resort. There is a great train service that links the Costa del Sol area running from Malaga ? Fuengirola which is only a couple of Euros and also there is a good regular bus service that links the resorts. In fact we have used the train instead of taxis / transfers to & from the airport since the train stops here as well! So unless you have difficulty in walking you don?t need to hire a car. In a car or taxi it?s about 15-20 minutes drive to the airport and costs about 20 Euros. The taxis can take four people so if you?re are arranging your own transfers don?t bother booking since there are always plenty of taxi?s waiting and this works out alot cheaper. Benalmadena is a now well developed and spread out resort with the best location nearest the marina end. If you booking and have never been here before my advice is to get as close to the marina as possible and may be even consider Monte-Mar which is sandwiched between Torremolinos and Benalmadena just the other side of the marina. However, if your are looking for peace & quite book a hotel near to the Torrquebrada end which is fringed by golf courses and therefore more tranquil. The beaches are cleaned daily and fairly well cared for and are of soft light brown sand. My favourite beach is by the Paseo Maritimo and is like a bay with the edge of the marina to left. The beach has its own life guards toilets and bar / restaurant. The promenade from which it?s possible to walk to Torremolinos is also backed by a line of shops, bars and restaurants in addition to those in an around the marina. Sun beds and parasols are available for hire from 6 euros a day. The beach can be busy at times especially weekends when there are more Spanish locals around however we have always easily found a spot. The is so much to here to do apart from the beach there are 2 Aqua parks with the one in Torremolinos being only a short taxi ride away. There are boat trips from the marina and fishing, sailing & water sports in addition to which there is also a variety of day trips available by coach to mountainous region of the Ronda in the Andalucia area with stunning mountain views, lakes and Spanish architecture. Also you can go to Gibraltar to see the rock & the monkeys and do some real duty free shopping. The weather here is also great it seems to have its own micro climate being backed by the mountains and close to Morocco which you can just make out across the sea on a clear day. While eating out you are spoilt for choice with every taste and budget catered for with beach lined with chiringuito?s (charcoal grill restaurants) serving freshly caught fish through to Italian, Moroccan, traditional Spanish and English. There is even a MacDonald?s and Burger King as well as various take-away outlets. In fact price wise the area has the best value for eating out compared to any Spanish resort I?ve ever been to. Maybe that?s due in part to the amount of competition around. We normally go self catering here and eat out every night at a different location. There is also great choice of evening entertainment in the bigger bars especially around the Bonanza Square area which is a little way in land up a very steep hill. Also for the young at heart there is 24 hour square with a range of discos and music bars in a very lively area. The resort extends up a step hill called heart attack hill by the local ex pats and not without good reason! If you are staying in the area up from or around Bonanza square or Arroyo you do need to be fairly fit to negotiate this hill. That said though taxis are cheap and plenty full costing about 4 Euros to come up from the beach. This is really a great place to go but don?t stay stuck in your hotel if you visit this area. Be prepared to get out and about as this place has got everything. It goes from the almost Blackpool garish to very picture

Torremolinos is a great resort, with great people, nice food, and nice hotels. Out hotel was called the Roc LagoRojo Hotel, it was very spacious and clean and had some great views. The pool wasn't big but the beach was across the road so you had a choice of either, but the beach was more fun, with a mixture of water activities. The resort is very over loaded with shops, restaurants and bars which make it look scruffy but that wasn’t a problem to us. Everything was cheap, food was fast and tasty and the entertainment was good too. You would really enjoy it here; you have a selection of things to choose from, a selection of bars to drink at and places to relax in. Me and my boyfriend will go back at some point as we really enjoyed it.

I took my boyfriend to Benalmadena in the Costa del Sol and we both loved it. The people are very very polite and friendly and the resort was very relaxing and cosy looking. The beach is so close and offers great water activities but watch out for the local traders, they never leave you alone and they were always trying to make you buy things. There were loads of bars and clubs, very lively at night and everyone is so happy. It’s a great atmosphere to be in.

What a great place. Marbella is brill, cool hotel, nice pool area, nice people and great for partying... There is always something going on, beach parties, pool parties, always packed with people having so much fun, especially the young people. The older generation, who have plenty of dosh, enjoy the yachts and there own pool etc... Marbella is a great celeb attraction as well, so I have heard! Although I never got to see any celebs that never bothered me, I was having a really good time so thats all that mattered really. It would be rude not to go back next year...

The Costa del Sol was cool, I went with my mum, dad, brother and sister and all we did mostly was hit the pool or go to the beach. It was nice and hot, I got a top sun tan but our hotel was small especially with 5 people cramped in there. Me and my sister would go on little walks and explore the resort, we would come across small villages, with narrow streets and we’d sneak off to the theme park and go on the rides. One of the days we all went to this water park, it wasn't big but it was fun, I went in a rock pool where you could climb the rocks as far as you could and jump in the water below. My sister went down this huge slide and when she got to the bottom her bikini top was hanging off, hahahaha funny! And the wave pool was cool 2, the waves were huge and sucked you under, that was scary at times. We also went into Costa del Sol centre and went and explored the castles, there was a few cannons and other ancient history stuff there as well, I had my picture taken when I was sat on one of the cannons with my sister, then we would go and have some lunch in the café’s built in the grounds. In the evening we would all go to a few of the family bars and watch the entertainment that was on. There was a big thunder storm one day, the whole resort was flooded, it reminded me of the UK, but that was soon forgotten when the sun eventually came out again and we could all go back to the pool and have fun. I enjoyed it. It's mainly a family and couples holiday, it's not your typical group holiday at all.

What a great place, you have to see it for your self to believe the beauty of it. Top bunch of locals and there were some great market stalls for buying stuff. I love shopping; I found plenty of presents for everyone back home. The people love a good old haggle too, I got a pair of shoes for 40 euros that should of been 65 euros, I though that was good going for me. The hotel we stayed at was small, but clean so that’s all that mattered. I would take a tour of the old villages that were a few miles from the resort; people were still living in some of the old run down buildings. It’s amazing what you come across. The beach is nice and sandy, with clean calm sea, you could take a boat ride round the island but I never bothered as I was to busy enjoying my own tours. I would walk along the beach front, I also came across a huge rocky mountain what you cold dive off into the sea, scary but fun. It's worth a second visit.

Frigiliana is a quiet resort, nice location to chill out. I work long hours and never get a break so all I wanted to do was relax by the pool. The Nova hotel was nice, great food and cheap drinks. One of the resort bars had a singing competition on the karaoke and I joined in, and guess what?!? I never won!! It was a right good laugh though and the people were very fun to hang out with. I never spent much time at the beach, it was a fare distance from the hotel but the pool was big enough and it was very relaxing too so I was made up. It is a nice resort, but if you want something livelier then head further up the coast. I had loads of fun and that is all that matters.

I went to Puerto Banus three summers in a row as I had such a good time. The beach is great - nice sand, not too crowded - with loads of beach bars for cocktails and seriously tasty food on offer(fresh seafood barbecued was particularly good). On the main strip there are lots of lively bars and a good mix of restaurants to match all budgets. While there is the odd tacky English pub, in general Banus is pretty upmarket with evidence of wealth everywhere (huge boats moored offshore, sports cars everywhere, high end shops) but is not snooty and has a laid back atmosphere. Nightlife is also excellent with lots of clubs and some big name DJ's regularly playing. Highly recommended for a couple of weeks in the sun

The beach is gorgeous and if you get there early you can get a good spot before the lunchtime rush! Would love to spend my whole life wandering along the seafront and eating out... if only the universe was that kind!

Really good for a fun party holiday but not as big and clubby and seedy as Ibiza or anywhere like that! Clubbing all night - sunbathing all day.... apparently there are other things to do but we didn't do any lol!

The caves near Nerja are amazing! Similar to the ones in Gibraltar which is driving distance and worth a visit too! You can hear water trickling everywhere and its the thousands of years of trickling that have carved these caves. Really spectacular when all lit up. The beach is pretty standard (sun sand water - what more do you need!) and the local shops and restaurants are in abundance. Great place to relax and experience the costa del sol.

THe castle on the hill by the coast is picture perfect! THe beach is beautiful early in the morning. A cold wind can sometimes blow off the sea but most of the time the weather's nice.

Spent my honeymoon in the Costa Del Sol. We drove around all the little towns in the mountains. Frigiliana is so pretty... as are mijas and Ronda. Great place for a honeymoon because there is nothing to do! But not in a bad way. All we did was look at gorgeous views and ate out and wandered around the pretty little streets and stayed in our room for hours. And just before the tourist season kicked off so not too crowded... Perfect honeymoon! :-)

Whilst most people are taking boat trips, lying on the beach and eating tapas on holiday in the costa del sol... I was shopping! Our hotel was just outside of estepona. Great town with a huge carrefour and on the other side of town a farmers market. I found some gorgeous handbags and jewellery and clothes. As well as fresh flowers, vegetables and spices. So glad we went self catering! Cooked loads of great dinners with gorgeous fresh ingredients!

Went to the costa del sol last year and had the worst holiday ever. Maybe it was the circumstances and the company rather than the place! Hire car broke down and it took hours to be rescued. Meanwhile we were burnt to a crisp in the andulucian sunshine! Everywhere we went there were thousands of half naked british people. Didn't hear one word of spanish and ate fish and chips most nights in the hotel. Had to really search the town for some good spanish food! It's not a bad place... just too busy to be relaxing!

I love my seafood and got plenty of it! Hotel was basic but did the job and was clean. Took a boat trip to Morocco. You dont realise how close Europe and Africa are. They are our next door neighbours but are a world away! One of our friends couldn't go though as she didn't have an EU passport so check this out b4 you set off.

Costa del Sol, Spain Winter Bliss

Went to the Costa del Sol with my mum in February. Was total bliss! Most people go to the Costa Del Sol in the summer but in February, ok it's not so hot but it's not freezing like england and there are hardly any tourists. The Costa Del Sol has been totally ravaged by the tourist industry. All there is is british pubs and indian takeaways and aparthotels and in the summer that's all you see as well as sunburnt british people. However when we went in the winter we hired a car and drove round all the little villages. Ate tapas, walked along the coast. Shopped in the farmers markets. Also drove along the coast to Gibraltar which was really surreal. Its like England.... but in Spain! Ronda is so beautiful in the winter. A thunder storm was brewing and the view from the plateau was stunning with the big grey clouds framing the mountains. Mijas is a must see. Very pretty little town :-) I'm a winter holiday in the Costas convert and trust me it's much better than lying on the beach with the other british tourists in the summer!

I had a wonderful time in Marbella, I enjoyed everything basically, the new St Tropez! I splashed out on a 5 star hotel over looking the sea and enjoyed top class service by the pool side. The beach had everything from skiing, jet bikes, boat trips, pedalos, banana boats, scuba diving and a ride on a yacht, but that was very expensive. I also enjoyed the night life from, casinos, foam partys and disco bars etc. It was a great holiday and great entertainment.
