I was living out in singapore about 20 yrs ago when my husband was in the army and we had such a great time as it was so hot and lovely places to go and would love to go back there again.China Rating: 7/10

China is not everyone's cup of tea. It certainly is an interesting place and whether you come away loving it or hating it, it's still worth the visit.
I tavel from Kowloon by train to Canton then flew to Tiuan before an overnight train to Xian, then flew to Beijing then flew back to Kowloon.
The train journey was definitely an experience! We had two small children with us which made it even more of an experience. I made the mistake of trying to rough it and booked open hard-bunks for us. I wasn't expecting 4 bunks on top of eachother and a gutter down the centre aisle. My wife's tears got us our own sleeper cabin... still cost relatively nothing. This is the most important lesson... DONT BE CHEAP! Just pay for the best and have a good time.
The terracotta soldiers in Xian were incredible. As was the Great Wall of China. THe Forbidden/Imperial City was stunning. I've never been gobsmacked like that before or since. I'm so glad I took my children to see these amazing things.
I made the mistake of not finding out exactly what something was before ordering it. If you dont want to be served monkey brains or dog kebabs or something equally unpalatable then stick to hotel restaurants and make sure you ask before you order!
Beautiful country with amazing geography and architecture and comes highly recommended! |
