We travlled to Turkey at the end of August and stayed in a small, quiet complex called the Olive Grove. The apartment and complex were lovely, the owners absolutely fab. It was clean everywhere, the people were very friendly, many of them go back year after year and own the apartments on the complex. Ovacik itself is a quiet area, there are plently of little supermarkets and restaurants down the main road. There is always a dolmus (shared minibus) or taxi going past so it is easier to get to the livelier Hisaronu, which is only a 10 minute drive, and costs about 50p from Ovacik. Alternatively you can catch the dolmus the other way and go into the harbour town Fethiye. I think Ovacik was the perfect destination, very serene with gorgeous views, you can see Oludeniz from the balconies on the poolside apartments, or it can be lively if you take the quick trip into Hisaronu. The dolmus prices were the same back at 2am as they were in the afternoon! I could talk about Ovacik and my amazing holiday all day, it is definitely worth a visit and even if you just stay in a hotel there, it is prime location! The alcohol is watered down, the only good thing about the place is the staff and the people. Calis Beach, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Ciara Date of travel: 05/07/2009
We have just visited this resort for the second time with our two children who are under five. Yet again we enjoyed the resort with its soaring temperatures and exceptionally warm welcome (especially for young children). Unfortunately our enjoyment of this otherwise wonderful holiday was marred slightly by the lack of efficiency and due care and attention of Starfish Lettings; the letting agency through whom we had booked our self catering duplex apartment online. We stayed at Aqua Apartments and despite the fact that the apartment was modern, clean and comfortable, set in beautifully maintained gardens with a good sized pool; one major thing was missing - SECURITY! One of the doors to the apartment was unlocked and remained so for the duration of our stay as we were not provided with a key despite constant requests. We were burgled twice in two days while we and our children slept!!! I just thank God that it was only material things that disappeared. I would strongly recommend a visit to Calis Beach, but not to the Aqua Apartments let by Starfish Lettings!Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey 100% Teriffic Turkey! We stayed at Palmeden Hotel in Dalyan. It's a small family run hotel with 24 rooms . There are 2 pools ( 1 is for children) which are perfectly big enough. The rooms were very clean, large and with airconditioner( free of charge) there's also a bar and a very nice shadowy garden full of Palmtrees. The food were very delicious in Palmeden . We tasted Ottoman cuisine as well as European foods. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They organized everything for us such as airport transportation, scuba diving tours etc.Dalyan is the greatest place on earth.. The 5.5 km long Iztuzu beach has wonderful golden sands. Dalyan is unique with the rock tombs of the kings..We liked to visit ancient Caunos city. We already made our booking to Palmeden hotel for 2009 summer.Kalkan, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Romantic retreat Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Calvin Date of travel: 16/04/2009
We fell in love with Kalkan on this our first trip to Turkey. Patara Prince was an excellent choice and great base for soaking up the beauty of Kalkan. The apartment is modern, well equipped and spacious, especially the king size bed – heaven! We enjoyed many a bottle of wine on the patio in the evening. The pool areas here were also amazing all 3 have views out to the sea and an infinity pool – wow! One thing that sticks in my mind was the beautiful aroma from the pretty flowers, it smells and feels like you’re in paradise. The restaurants in Kalkan were amazing! Most of them being candle lit and roof top so that you can further enjoy the pretty views – very romantic! There was such a wide choice of food available and it was all reasonably priced and delish! I would highly recommend the apartment and Patara Prince. It’s a hidden little gem. We had a truly relaxing break. Will be booking again very soon for next year. Kalkan, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Palm 235 in Kalkan Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Calvin Date of travel: 12/03/2009
A well earned break away from the UK, even got some colour on my face, fab for March. Our second visit to patara prince in Kalkan, and I still found it as stunning as the first time. There was 4 of us this time so decided on a larger apartment. Palm 235 was everything it stated it was on the web site, comfortable, beautifully appointed, large enough for 4 and fully equipped with everything we needed. Definitely superior in quality than the one we stayed in last time. Nice sea view from the terrace and a quieter location for us away from the road. We would recommend Palm 235 to anyone without hesitation and the owners couldn't do enough for us, we will be back next year and realise we will have to get booked early to get Palm235 again. I enjoyed the holiday an found the food / people very friendly and had a really good time, the Bizaars were excellent fun and lots of fun haggling, we went at a good time in September as they were preparing to close down for winter so if going to shop then i would suggest this as a good time to go. would recommend as a couples holiday or somewhere for a quiet get awayGumbet, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey club bozok best place in gumbe Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: kerry Date of travel: 08/06/2008

We had never been to Turkey before, but we are deffinately going again. What made our holiday, was the people. They were fantastic. I know that they wanted our money in the way of tips, but they bent over backwards to earn the tips.
We stayed at the Hotel Ares, which was fantastic when the owner was away, but had a bad feeling when she was there, she is rude and unhelpful and wont let you take any food or drink to your room if you havent bought it from her - not even bottled water.
There is loads to do in Marmaris, and most of the tours are really cheap and include your meals and drinks in the price.
A must for everybody is the Jeep Safari, bit be prepared to get wet and dirty, and take the biggest water gun you can find and as much water as you can carry.
We are deffinately going back, but will probably stay in a different hotel.Hisaronu, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Turkey Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: john Date of travel: 07/07/2007

There are just enough bars in olu deniz but if you really do want to party then get on a dolmus for about 10 minutes and you will arrive in the resort of Hisarnonu. We highly recommend Yalikavak for holiday. It is a must see sight for holiday action. The people are very friendly on the streets and on the staff. There are a multitude of activities to do and places to eat. We never had a dull moment or a moment to wonder what to do because there were great deals all around. IN the coastal villages hides the best time of all. Fishing and exploring with the locals was absolutely fabulous. We bought many of our own supplies out of courtesy but they offered us their things at no price. I liked the feeling that we were welcomed by everyone instead of being hated. During many a holiday experience the locals seemed as if they resented us because we took over the place. Places that were designed with us in mind, not them. But niot in Yalikavak. Always welcomed, remembered, and invited back and told to bring friends next time. You should go too friend.Marmaris, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Go..Lots of times Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Jered Date of travel: 23/01/2007
Been to Marmaris loads of times and will be back loads of more times. You should go too. Caters for all with the beach, bars, night stuff and day trips. Very pretty. Quite relaxed. So much to do that there is not enough time in the day. Tons of nice people from there and all over. Shopping is nice but a whole days event. Awesome Jeep Safari where you get wet and see animals. If you can bring a water pistol with you to have a water fight. Very fun and different. Also great cruise. 3 hours long but by the end you don’t want to get off. Nice hotels with ready eats and friendly staff. Go… you will like it.Marmaris, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Good Old Mamaris Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Joservari Date of travel: 27/02/2007
Pleasant resort with plenty of quality restaurants and bars. All of the staffs that we had the honor to encounter were fab. We had a great time dancing in the discos and meeting people from all walks of life. Summer rain is the best restaurant in the entire place. We went back 5 times in our 2 week stay because the food was to die for. Karaoke time all night long at Santana with specials prizes for those who are the most fun and most talented. The shops are packed with fun items and we brought back many of them along with bargaining memories by the bag full. At the bazaar there was something for the whole team be it jewelry, leather, clothes, or food for Charlie. The beautiful black sand was very impressive as I have never see it in person before. The entertainment was the best part because of the belly dancers, breakdancers, and snakes. Way cool!!!!!!! Turgutreis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Family Good Times Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Jackee Date of travel: 20/09/2006
Splendid family resort for a peaceful holiday under the sun. Not too many people consider it their top holiday thought which made it less crowded and more family friendly. The staffs understood the concept of customer service as the restaurant staff was great with the children and the bar was good for us. Some restaurants provided our children with coloring books and crayons so that they could keep entertained. I myself am a shopaholic which often worries my husband but the markets were cheap and some of the items were small so they not cost too much of pocket and all fit in the one large empty suitcase that we brought with us simply for that purpose. The people around who were not part of any staff were wonderful also. Very friendly in the bars and up and open for conversation. For a different type of day trip the family caught a ferry and rode it to Kos. The very is safe and lovely and very popular with the little ones.Turgutreis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Not So Great Rating: 6/10 Submitted by: Oscar Date of travel: 12/09/2007
Just came back from Turgutreis and write now to report that it was an ok holiday. The resort itself was small and basic. I guess that they were doing renovations while tourists are there but it would have been much better to do the resort makeover before we came so that we could have a better time. It is not fair that we are expected to put up with rubbish on the street simply because it will one day look better. At least our hotel was quite clean and quiet and the area around it was well maintained as well. It was in a good position as it was only a short walk into Turgutreis and around that around there was plenty to do if you are accustomed to be active at night. In Turgutreis itself the nightlife was nothing to clap about. But the resort did offer good food and quick attentive service. I feel that the resort will be perfect in the future when the additions arrive and they add more to do at night and in other ways of entertainment. Good place for the family especially if your children love to jump on trampolines or like to see real camels. Torba, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Where everyone knows your name Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Kraig Date of travel: 08/01/2005
What can I say about Torba? I like small, quiet, and calm things so I liked Torba. I like being low key and not having much to do on holiday and that is what Torba is all about. A couple of hotels all offering nice prices and superb service. Only a small handful of restaurants where you could eat in multiple times so that the people got to know you. They knew me so well in there that they gave me free drinks and special food discounts. The beach was not magical but served its purpose but the view of the bay and the blue sea was tear jerking. I spend most of the time floating on boats and just lounging around town. I knew every corner in Torba and everyone knew me. Very peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Lots of laughs and relaxation. Lots of me time in a lovely setting. Torba, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Torba is Too Small Rating: 5/10 Submitted by: Frankyn Date of travel: 26/04/2007
Not a good experience in Torba. First of all, how can they get away with advertising an incredible beach in the brochures and when you get there the people on holiday find out that it is shingles and stones? The harbor walk was nothing special as there were a handful of shop with scarce variety and only a few restaurants that you had to eat in over and over again. Tons of construction about so you had the mind the rubbish and be able to handle not taking many pictures. The resort was entirely too small and we did not find ourselves spending too much time in it. Instead we stepped into many a taxi and rode over to Bodrum, luckily only a five minute drive away. There was were the good holiday was hiding in size, form, beauty, variety and high enjoyment feeling. If we did it all over again we would come into Torba knowing that that was the place for our cheaper hotel in which to sleep and rest and Bodrum would be where we would spend the other 70% of our time.Turgutreis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Resort Beauty Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Simone Date of travel: 29/03/2006
Turgutreis was an absolutely beautiful resort. The beach was so wonderful that you felt that you were in the Caribbean. Nice white sand and pebbles, warm soothing waters made you want to sit and enjoy the beach for hours, which is what we did. There was a great assortment of bars and restaurants all with a great selection of food. The best thing about the resort is that every last person from the hotel staff, store merchants, waiters and hosts of the bars and restaurants would do what ever they could to enhance our happiness during our holiday. The Turgeritis Mandalinci Hotel was worth what we paid for. Very pretty and well kempt inside and picture worthy on the outside. What was surprising is how many disco clubs that were available. We found one that played American Pop music and Hip Hop. That was our favorite disco besides the one that played oldies music. The market in Turgeritis was a night sight were we got good deals on the presents that we purchased. An unusual thing there was the amount of dogs and cats around. They were friendly but there were many more around than can be expected. The resort was small but beautiful all around. I would love to return in the near future.Calis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey OUt of the Planet Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Edgar Date of travel: 19/02/2006
Calis for holiday anyone? I went and had an astronomical time. It is a cool place to go. There I got to swim in the Mediterranean with all of the tropical fish. Boat tours were available everyday at any time before night. They offered hour trips or all day trips so I did both. Both had there great points and I will do them too. I thought it was the coolest thing that we could take safaris in Calis too. My thoughts initially were that only happened in the land of Africa or in the Forests of Brazil but no, we did them there. Very inexpensive and worth every inexpense. Outrageous animals were in touching distance. Speaking of animals there were sea turtle eggs on the beach and we saw baby turtles making their way to the water. We grabbed one and looked at up close. We then took it to the water where in automatically knew how to swim. Horse riding was my last encounter with the beloved animals and was the best thing. They are massive, friendly, and strong. How they are so graceful under my weight, the world may never know but they are. I lived it up during the night time in the clubs with cheap (but good cocktails) in my hand and party until the sun came up. Party on Calisites.Calis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey It's all in the Sunset Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Gwenivere Date of travel: 07/03/2007
Please do me a favor and ask yourselves if you have ever seen a true sunset. Now don’t to the typical thought pattern. You know the one that I am taking about, where you say of course. No… I would like you to really think about it. Because the point is you have not seen a true beautiful sunset unless you have seen it in Calis Turkey. Calis is notorious for having some of the most beautiful sunsets in world. The way the green mountains grow dark as the sun changes its position in the sky. The way the sky becomes multicolored…out of this world. Calis is not only known for the most fabulous sunsets ever, but my husband and I now know it as a prime holiday experience. It is right off of the Mediterranean coast and the waters are delightful. The hotels are even better with top staff, rooms, service, restaurants, and bars. There was some much given to us at the hotel that there were days that we chose to stay there and sleep and relax the day away. The beach is what got us out many days. It is long and narrow and has so much room that we never felt crowded. There were times that we saw a big family come and settle by us but all we had to do is move a few meters away and it was perfect away. Within stepping distance of the beach was the Aquacity Water Park. The park provided hours of watersports, slides, wading ponds and wave machines. Took the entire day to explore from wee hours of the morning to when it closes at night. Sundays I dragged the Mr. to the markets that have cheap prices like Camden but merchants much more spread out. Great selection of no name and designer brands. Great time but you must commit our entire morning. We did tons more in Calis but it would take ages to tell. If you go for anything, do go for the Sunset.Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey NO place like this one Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Shawn Date of travel: 08/01/2007
Very very cool place to spend some time. So many towns to choose from each with a unique culture to offer. Had the chance to visit Corba and Bitez…great sites, cool people…awesome food. Nighttime in Bodrum in rockin. It starts up right before sunset with shows, and bar drink offers and people coming out to socialize then there is lots of music played and other things to do. There is also a treat called Bodrum tonight where flocks of crows return to the castle for evening roost. It is quite nice to sip cocktails while watching the crows fly and the sun gently drop down behind the sea. Bodrum is decorated by hillsides, old houses, and a big castle. Many things to do on water and on land. Best of all is the amphitheater perched on the hillside above town. Great sound and shows. The Bodrum area is a great place for any type of holiday as you can have as much fun as you like with plenty of bars and clubs in Bodrum and the surrounding resorts or if you prefer you can enjoy a nice quite holiday on the Bodrum Peninsula with a lovely stretch of beach to walk along. There are certain things that you don’t want to miss out on when you visit Bodrum like the Halicarnassos Mausoleum which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. we were lucky enought to be recommended the fantastic Lycian center. It is privately owned and you stay in beautiful stone built fully furnished apartments set in lovely well kept gardens and all round the pool.
On site there are 3 different restaurants and bars all of which as a bonus you get 20per cent off.
Our favourite was the SHINE indian - especially Hasan and his jokes.
We didn't want to leave and have booked to come again next May.
Prices are so reasonable and they offer private transfers too.
This isn't in any brochures thank goodness as we want to keep it secret.......

My boyfriend and I flew into Kalkan at night and knew from that moment our holiday was magic. Kalkan is breathtaking at anytime but especially at night. The lights, the water that reflects the changing colors of the beautiful sky and the mountains created a perfect scene. It looked like a scene doctored in a travel agents catalogue to make clients pay millions of pounds for paradise. Kalkan is a historic town in Turkey and has to be the most enchanting place off of the entire Lycian Coast. We chose this place because we knew that not many people visit it. Due to our thinking we experienced a town unspoiled from overpopulation that still maintained its historic architecture, ancient history, lush nature and friendly people. Oh, we stayed in the most perfect apartments called the Atilla Poolside apartments. The prices were amazing and the apartments were big, comfortable, and clean. We spent time learning about Turkish history and viewing all of the sites that Kalkan had to offer. We scuba dived, went to the beach, danced and beach club and bars and tasted authentic Turkish dishes in the restaurants. Everyone there was super friendly and super helpful. Smiles ever on their faces and good customer service gave me the perfect holiday experience. We had no complaints and will bring the siblings and parents with us next time. We will take them on the mountain excursions to have the time and beautiful visions of their lives.Gundogan, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Can't beat Gundogan. Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Karl Date of travel: 17/05/2007
I took my girlfriend on holiday to the stunning place Gundogan in Turkey and we stayed at the 5 star Hotel Baia Bodrum, very pricy but she's worth it. You won't find a better hotel ever that's for sure. The pool was over hanging the sea, the sea view with mountains surrounding the ocean, that was top as. The hotel has got to be the most stylish hotel I have ever stayed in, only 1st class for me and my partner. The beach was tremendous as well, with a waiter at your beck and call, the beach bar was cool, with pool tables and darts, and then there was beach volley ball and paragliding. The sea was crystal clear and you could walk out for miles and it would only be knee deep. In the evening I took my girlfriend for a few romantic meals and then sang a song on the resorts karaoke, now I know I'm not Justin Timberlake but I could pass as his sound-alike! Ha-ha... I basically had a top holiday and I never wanted it to end, I'm certainly going to go back next year and this time, I might even propose.Gumbet, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Quality! I took my eldest daughter to Gumbet for her 21st birthday and we stayed at the Tropicana Beach Hotel which was superb quality and great staff. The pool was always freshly cleaned every day and the gardens were very flowery and spotless. The hotel barman (Dolphin) was very helpful, always recommending good places to eat, we were advised to go to the Pane Vino and Paradice restaurants and I'm glad we went. Top food and service, and it were also cheap. My daughter took me to a bar called 'The central bar' and 'X bar' I was very drunk by 10pm and needed to go to bed. It was a really good night though and I danced on the stage and embarrassed myself. The beach was a nice and relaxing place, especially if you wanted to chill with a book with out screaming children running up and down, there was plenty space and sun loungers. There were also wind surfing and boat rides on offer too.Konacik, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey A Point on the Way to Holiday Rating: 4/10 Submitted by: Tyler Date of travel: 17/08/2005
Konacik is a very residential and commercial area. It is located close to the resort areas on the coast but is not itself located on the coast. There was not water within walking distance so we had to take taxis and buses to the coast. The prices were not bad but we would have preferred just being able to walk along the beach from our hotel and have the sea in our own back yard. There are a handful of shopping centers without that much to offer. I took a tour through the vineyards and they demonstrated the process to make wine from crushing to fermentation. The buildings were interesting and the people we very nice but most things that I did there I could have done at home. I just felt that it should have been a stop on the way to our holiday. It was not a suitable scene for holiday at all.Fethiye, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Got to See The DEAD Sea! Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Faye Date of travel: 22/07/2006

I wanted to phone everyone back home and tell them how amazing Turkey is. The blue lagoon is excellent as well. Olu Deniz beach is just a 5 minute walk away from the apartments, the apartments were called the Gate Apartments and they was lovely and clean, although it's self catering, there was a restaurant next door and it was very cheap too. There are so many things you can do and see, the food is cheap and tasty, the resort is very friendly and relaxing and the people are great too. Very small seaside resort in the Turkey Borum Peninsula. The atmosphere was entirely Turkish with Turkish music, Turkish food, the selling of Turkish style dress, and Turkish crafts display in window fronts. There were a selection of beaches and coves to choose from. When one area became too crowded you walked to another and had room to stretch out and rest. There was the smell of pine in the air due to the vast amount of pine tress and the olive groves were fun too walk through and look over. The water was not blue but turquoise, clear enough to look down and see swimming fish. Further out than the hip deep water I brought goggles to merely look at what was below me. To my surprise and entire school of fish swam around me and I felt not one make contact with my skin. I windsurfed. I never thought that I would but the price was right and the instructor basically held my hand the entire way. By my forth day out there I was practically a professional. Kadicalesi also has a lot of history to visit. The ancient ruins of Heriopolis taught us many things and the boat trips took us out on long and fun journeys.Dalyan, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Simply the Best! We stayed at the Calbis hotel and we were happy with the treatment we received, the pool was very warm and the gardens were well looked after too. The staff was the friendliest people you can ever come across, they make you feel very welcome and very at home. There are plenty of shops and restaurants, most restaurants have a similar menu but it's the atmosphere in some restaurants that get your attention. There is also a Sunday market and haggling prices is quite fun and the market people enjoy it too. The weather can be a little hot at times but the breeze from the river cools you down and makes the holiday bearable. Me and my wife have booked our next visit for 2008 and we can not wait either.Gumusluk, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey No Complaints from Me Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Sarah Date of travel: 03/11/2005
We loved it and have no complaints. The resort and the beach were both nice. We were close to neighboring towns so when we called for a change in scenery or events we took a ?5 boat. The food was good and we did a lot of shopping. We will be back and with more people. Lots of bars and restaurants to eat and drink in and a couple of clubs to visit if that is your scene.Calis Beach, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey The Nontraditional Family Spot Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Geniveve Date of travel: 25/03/2006
We wanted the real feel of Calis. Instead of booking the fancy hotels all along the coast lines we had rooms in the smaller family run properties in the back away from the seafront. That was much nicer. Home cooked meals from the family restaurants, my children playing with those of the owners, and time to learn about their culture. It does not get that personal in hotels. We took our personal hike through the mountains, not the one organized by guides. We hiked for 2 hours and then ate lunch. Since we were going downhill the hike down only took an hour and a half after which rest on the beach was in order. The beach was protect by a lifeguard and kept very tidy. Soccer balls were available to rent as well as beach contests were often play like tug of war and limbo. During our dinners we looked out on the bay and would rent canoes before the sunset. The nights were quiet and not dominated by loud music or drunkards. No, once the babies were put down we spent nights a cafes or in the lobby with the owners. There are a couple of discos but they were not out of hand. Great place for family time and safe location. Attractive location with many relaxing things to do.Gocek, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Tons of Time with Family Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Wideline Date of travel: 26/05/2007
Gocek is fabulous place to vacation with the family. We have three teens in the house and at times it is very hard to connect with them. In Gocek they had to stick with mum and dad because they had no where else to go. And do you know something'they had a great time and bonded with us without knowing. We five stayed in a family sized villa. The town was small so we as a family walked around it, ate together, and were able to reconnect. On the water I watched my children's faces ask they learned how to use the jets and have swimming contests in the sea. There were plenty restaurants on the coast and each night another person had chance to choose at which restaurant the family would eat. The Turkish antique and crafts shops were quite nice as well. At one craft shop we molded our clay into different shapes, baked it and then painted our new ceramics. We had big days of boat tours and excursions and at night we would sit along the shore and really chat together. Our villa had its own pool so we held BBQs and invited other villa guest. My youngest decided that this was our new home.Olu Deniz, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Biking Down Real Mountains Rating: 10/10 Submitted by: Jordan Date of travel: 18/09/2006
My wife and I had seen Olu Deniz in so many magazines and brochures that we knew that we just had to go there. This resort is absolutely gorgeous. We thought that the pictures had to be too good to be true but we were wrong. They were accurate down to the last leaf. The mountains were green with vegetation and beautiful brown from the land. Pure white beach sand and various shades of blue water was a dream right before our eyes. The beach curved in around the water in such a way that it almost encircled natural blue lagoon. I easily swam from one site to the other waiving at my wife from the other side. She and I rented a canoe and had a race with the couple that traveled with us. The rentals were cheap and we were allowed to rent them for four hours at a time. We went on an organized excursion to Dalyan where we say the Lycian Rock Tombs. My wife convinced me to bathe in the sulphur mud baths because she said that ?it does wonders for the skin.? My question to her was if I have spent my entire life bathing to get the dirt off my skin, why would I intentionally bathe in mud but it turned out to be a very soothing experience. And yes honey, my skin is now softer. I had the most fun mountain biking. I am into those extreme sports and it was rather nice to bike on real and rugged mountains. I feel off once or twice but was able to feel the air on my face as I rode down the mountain.Gokova, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Took Over 500 Photos Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Penelope Date of travel: 12/04/2007
I must have taken over 500 pictures in Gokova because every part of it is absolutely stunning. The sights were amazing, the sounds?inviting, and the adventures kept my camera snapping finger busy. The road into Gokova is lined with Eucalyptus trees that form a natural tree-tunnel as you enter. Each and every corner, nook, or crevice of the bay offered its own touch of radiance. Passing through the canopies and seeing the animals made us walk and drive more just for the scenery. I was able to see all of the beauty of Gokova bay on our 8 day and 7 night Blue Voyage cruise. Gokova was our embarking and returning spot. After our crusise we spent 4 additional days there where we sat back and spent a tranquil time at the beach. Our adventures took place on the water where we scuba dived and skied on water. Dalaman, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Dalaman is out of this world. Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Roy Date of travel: 11/07/2005
I would certainly recommend Dalaman, it's a magical place to visit. Me and my wife explored the mountains and came across wild tortoises that were a truly amazing creature to discover. We spent an afternoon walking around Dalaman and had some great food by the Cainos Tombs. The hotel was quiet and the staff wasn't as friendly as we thought they would be but we spent most of the time out enjoying great scenery and breathtaking culture. The locals were very friendly and very helpful and the beach was very relaxing, with out the hassle of kids running about and things getting knocked over. It was a brilliant experience.Calis Beach, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Nice apartments. Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Carol Date of travel: 18/05/2006
Me and my boyfriend went to Calis Beach and we stayed at the Forest Valley apartments and they were absolutely beautiful, very posh. The pool area wasn't very big and the pool its self was a funny shape and the apartments were in quiet location but that made it more relaxing and peaceful to be honest. The beach was a 20 minute walk but that wasn't a problem as the exercise did us the world of good. And the scenery on the way was fantastic. I can't believe how gorgeous the apartments were. There was a choice of bars, shops and restaurants close by so if we got bored of BBQ's and eating in then we could pick and choose. Best of both worlds. We are definitely going back in a couple of years.Bodrum, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey It was ok. Rating: 6/10 Submitted by: Beth Date of travel: 02/06/2007
I went to Bodrum with my cousin and my best friend and we thought is was ok. The resort was nice but its very old style. We only spent 5 days there and we never got to see everything as there was so much to see and do. The night life was ace, plenty of bars and clubs. Plenty of British tourist go there so we felt at home kind of, we can't speak Turkish and we don't under stand it either so having english pubs and local people that can speak good english made us feel at ease.Kas, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Amazing Scenary Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Leilanni Date of travel: 15/10/2006
A charming resort composed of hills, open land, greenery and cobbled winding roads. It maintained many shops but they tended to be on the more expensive side. Some of the eateries were out of this world while others were too plain and average. Just outside of town there is a wall in the square where local men sit watching as things go on and have a drink. My husband and his brother spent time there speaking about the Kas culture and how it is ever changing with the times. My husbands sister in law and I made it up to the Friday market both times that held the cheaper shops and Turkish snacks on which to nibble. The beach was not that pleasant due to the lack of sand and too many pebbles, and the sand flies (who obviously did not need the sand to annoy us). Since we were not satisfied with our beach we went out on boats to others that were much better. The night atmosphere was nice and you could paraglide down the mountain right before sunset. Kas was well worth the 3 hour transfer from the airport. Turkbuku, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey The Land of Young People Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Heather Date of travel: 27/08/2007
We stayed in the Iberotel Bordrum Princess hotel that was only a ten minute car ride from the main village of Turkbuku. The hotel was utterly remarkable and we spent much time at the Iber Beach Club. We spent most days driving into Turkbuku because the experiences were fantastic and enjoyable. Clean water surrounded the bay, and the food had a unique and delightful taste. The town had many restaurants, each with its own flare. In one you would hear jazz music, the one next to it had a live Turkish band playing, and the bar next to that one played American music. Since Turkbuku is a main Village and many tourists do visit, security measures are high. Ensure that at anytime day or night you have an ID and a copy of your passport. There are check points on the highway just before you enter and leave Turkbuku on weekends so don't be alarmed, just prepared. Inside of Turbuku Bianca is the best club in which to be. Nice music, good crowds and free drinks for the ladies. It's a good thing to save money on your drinks because the shopping is to die for. Designer to cheap items: hats, purses, sunglasses, jewelry, clothes, and any accessory item imaginable. Younger people like those in their twenties and thirties dominate the areas of Maki and Na Na so if you don't like our crowd, you should stay clear. If you are one of us, the fun times keep rolling along.Torba, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey The Perfect Anniversary Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: John-Michael Date of travel: 11/03/2007
Ideal location for anniversaries. I took my wife of 5 years to Torba to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. The resort was nice and all inclusive so we did not have to worrying about traveling out too much. We had much time alone together on the wonderful beach. Water sports available everyday and very cheap to rent. We went out on Jet Ski's three times to discover who the champion was. We had a wide arrange of restaurants in the resort so we ate at a different one each day. Bodrum entertained was rubbish as was drinks were entirely too expense and nothing was available for the English to relate to. Club Voyage Torba was excellent and is a must do for anyone heading to Torba on holiday. My wife and I loved the fact that besides shopping, walking about, eating, and water sports that there was not much to do because that mean less distractions from each other. Yalikavak, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Stunning, Dazzling, Wonderful Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Phillip Date of travel: 18/02/2006
Lots of exploring to do in Yalikavak. Small coastal village'dazzling marina, a stunning level walkway that extends around the bay, and fantastic restaurants and food. The people are nice, the beaches were top and taking boat rides to caves and other stops made my days shine extra bright. I loved the hotel because it was clean and big. Went to the mountains and the peninsula and took pictures that knocked the wind out of friends. Loved it and will return soon.Turunc, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Ever so Lovely Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Katrina Date of travel: 01/01/2007
Still retaining its Turkish authenticity Turunc is a beautiful small resort were you still wake up to the crowing sound of a neighboring cockerel. We took a transfer bus from the airport to our apartments. The ride was lovely because they gave our free bottles of water and journeyed across a mountain road where we caught a magnificent view of our Turunc. Most of our nights were spent in bars eating out. The owners were very nice and welcoming and would carry on regular conversations with guests. The cocktails a great and once the owners saw you becoming a regular, they would give you free drinks. The food everywhere was great but I have never eaten so much rice before. Rice was one of their main staples and the ensured they put it with practically every dish. We tried eating outside many a time because the view and the weather were inviting but every time we attempted to do so we got attempted attacks by wasps (I do not very much like wasps).
Our favorite breakfast place was Musti. There they served a full English breakfast, including coffee or tea for only 9 lira (the cheapest I have ever seen). For on the water time we ventured out on a boat trip that cost ?10 each. It included a BBQ lunch, the rides, and a pass from 10:15 to 18:00. The boat stopped at various harbors for us to swim and gave us a reasonable amount of time for each stop. At Pregnant Church there were plenty of Jellyfish and people got stung so I remained on the boat for that one. At Dolphin bay we saw Dolphins jump in the water. It looked at if they were putting on a little show because it seemed as if they knew we were watching them. The heat got strong at some points but there were plenty of cheap drinks and water available through the boats bar.
We took something called a water taxis to visit other resorts along the coast. It was only ?30 or a little more depending on where you would like to go. The shops in Turunc are plentiful and have amazing inventories. All in All we have a great, easy holiday in Turunc.
Turgutreis, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Could Have Been Better Rating: 5/10 Submitted by: Janelle Date of travel: 12/05/2007
Turgutreis was not a good holiday site for the family. The beach was covered in pebbles instead of sand so it was very painful when trying to reach the water. A towel did not serve as comfort enough for your bum or those of the children so we had to rent beach chairs. Children do not enjoy sitting on chairs over playing in the sand. The beach was quite dirty and narrow as well. We saw plenty of dogs and cats roaming around freely, all of which left small presents everywhere after they ate. My husband and I did not have much time on the water because the wind blew too strong on some days. When the wind blew strong a red flag went up and visitors were restricted from the sea. Our hotel staff was very friendly but the food did not sit with any of us well. The taste was bad and left your stomach rumbling. We found better food in town with prices less expensive than in the restaurant. The harbor was a constant bustle but with enough room and selection to go around. This made it our most frequently visited place. It had places where the children could play games and buy cheap toys. We also took a ?10 each boat ride that lasted all day. My husband and I enjoyed the most and all day but the children grew restless towards the evening time.Ortakent, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Nice Beach, Hot Sand Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Faye Date of travel: 09/07/2006
One of the earth's most tidy resorts. The tavernas shops were full of fun items and souvenirs. The restaurants were small so the managers were very nice and kept the fronts of their establishments clean. It was only a 20 minute walk from the resort to the restaurants and bars so we ate out every night. The beach was big but quiet and not taken over by too many of those on holiday. Sand burned the bottom of our feet on the days that the heat was intense (which was often) so we wore flats. The entire resort carried on the charm of old Turkish days with traditional dancing and music and offering a vast selection of traditional dishes. Items on the resort are really cheap and are of top quality. The entire experience was a blast. Will certainly be back again.Marmaris, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Marmaris-For Young People Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Genesis Date of travel: 19/01/2007
We did not enjoy our time at the beach in Marmaris. It was quite dirty and there was severe overcrowding. The men who sold fruit on the beach were pushy and annoying. We did however feel that the pubs and restaurants were fantastic and the staff was simply brilliant with all of their customers. The resort itself was full of life and ideal for young people and couples. Everything is geared for groups that are of age so children would not too much have a good holiday. There was so much to do in ways of clubs and drinking that we did not know where to begin. We stayed for a week and still felt uncomfortable about the things that we had left to do. The island of Rhodes was only 45 minutes away by catamaran and we stayed for an entire day. There is where we had a great beach experience and with it available any day as much as you would like. Our favorite was the big theatre where the gladiators used to battle. Icmeler, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey They Have Gone 4 Times Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Mandy Date of travel: 09/06/2007
I have to go to Icmeler and I guess you do too because my brother and his wife have been there 4 times and cannot keep quiet about it. They tell me that it has a plethora of bars and places to eat with drinks and dishes that I have never heard of before. They love the beaches because they are clean and the resort has fantastic surroundings. They also love the fact that each restaurant is its own adventure because they either advertise great food and then only tell you outrageous prices at the bill or give some good deals like free kids meal despite what the adults order. Icmeler is definitely aimed at couples but if you have small children there are a few things to keep them entertained. My sister in law says that everyone remembers visitors from their second visit on and offer free drinks and appetizers during lunch and dinner. They have never had a bad meal (save the shock of a bill) and eat at The Lemon Tree 2 or 3 times each visit. There is everything to do from dancing, to shopping, to sea adventures, to boat trips. Everything is close distance and good prices. My brother went to a tanning bed at midnight simply because he could. They have already book another trip and I am right there with them.Hisaronu, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey A Happy Holiday Rating: 9/10 Submitted by: Sherrldean Date of travel: 07/02/2007
I LOVE HISARONU!!! |t was such a marvelous holiday pick. Our Hotel, Pink Palace was a mere 10 minute walk from the center of the town. Despite our proximity it was not too noisy at all and was still in view of the mountains. The night life was also bumping with fabulous clubs and bars with cheap drinks and food to eat late at night. The Blue Lagoon was a gorgeous beach that you can watch the sun come up after your night of dancing. But if you want to feel the class, glamour and less crowded luxury of a private beach try Joseph's beach. It was the first private beach that I have ever known and that motivated me to look for private beaches on all of my holidays. The locals could not have been friendlier. They actually stood outside and invited you to eat of drink at each and every restaurant and bar which caused them to give you better prices on everything. When ever my brother and I walked by someone would almost always say hello and ask you about their day. The days were quiet and the nights were a buzz. Olu Deniz beach was another beach that was nice to see but it was a bit harsh on the feet. The local bus service runs every 10 minutes and cost only 80p. The taxi service has fixed rates and you can always get one so you don't have the fear of getting taken advantage of. If you go to Kaya beach mind the nice lady who will show you to a sunbed and tell you it's free. Then she will take you into her restaurant and you will, tell you what she offers from the top of your head, and two small meals, salad and two glasses of wine will cost ?32 as it did us.Bitez, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Excellent choice of holiday. Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Edward Date of travel: 22/07/2005
I was absolutly thrilled with my choice of holiday. If you want a liveley but relaxed holiday destination then Bitez is the place to be. With golden sandy beaches and activities such as volleyball where you can join in the fun. Plus there is wind surfing and daily boat rides also. I'm not a big drinker so the evening entertainment wasn't a problem. I would sit on the balcony with a book and relax. You could hear the music from the local bars but it wasn't loud wnough so you could not rest. It's well worth visiting.Altinkum, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Top holiday. Rating: 8/10 Submitted by: Jason Date of travel: 27/05/2006
Th eonly downfall to our holiday was the Elvan Otel Hotel. It is not a hotel I would recommend but the resort is a nice location to visit though. The hotel is very small, only has two single beds and a tiny living space with a run down kitchen. There wasn't a balcony but the pool was a nice area to relax. Me and my girlfriend would go to Dolphin Square as there was some cool shops and restaurants there, and the prices were very reasonable too.. If you fancy a day out then visit Alkinkum's Aqua Park, that's a right laugh. There is also a boat trip from Alkunkum's harbour that travels round the Aegean coast, it's a must. In the evening we went to the Summer Garden Restaurant and enjoyed the tasty food they served and then we went to the Medusa Nightclub and danced the night away, it was so cool. The bars are also good too, there is plenty to do and see and I really enjoyed myself.Ovacik, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey Rating: 7/10 Submitted by: Jose Date of travel: 25/05/2007
I went to Ovacik earlier in the year with no expectations as i had never been to turkey. The resort is much quieter than i expected which suited me as i prefer to relax when i am on holiday. The views of the mountains around the resort add to the serenity of it all. The night life is not spectacular but its ideal for those who just want to relax and not over do it. |
