According to Post Office, there has been a rise in so-called "health tourism" in recent years, with 70,000 people now travelling overseas for cosmetic surgery holidays. Research from the company shows that holidaymakers can not only enjoy sangria, seafood and surfing while on a holiday in Alcudia or Benidorm, but they can relax on the beach as they recover from lower-cost elective medical treatment. Post Office notes that procedures such as breast implants, cosmetic dentistry, heart surgery and hip replacements can cost up to 50 per cent less than private treatment at home in the UK. Helen Warburton, head of Post Office travel services, advised Brits heading abroad for sun and surgery to look into purchasing specialist cover in case they have to miss their flight home as they may need to stay longer abroad to recover from surgery.
