According to Cahoot, 30 per cent of Britons splash their cash on "tacky" ornaments and holiday "tat" while abroad.
The study highlights that a total £231 million is spent each year on holiday souvenirs and gifts that consumers later regret buying.
"Holidays are all about fun and splashing out, but
we would always advise customers to have a realistic budget and stick to it," commented Matthew Timms, director of Cahoot.
Those on seaside holidays to Magaluf are likely to indulge in souvenir spree shopping according to the study with 68 per cent of such holidaymakers splashing out on ornaments, stuffed donkeys and novelty items.
Clothing, such as sombrero hats that can be picked up in most holiday resorts in Mexico, were favoured by 13 per cent of Britons.
